Congrats Dan for your "win" ! :)

Thanks Jéré, and congratulations to you too. :(y)

This game was full of surprises for me. We started off fairly evenly but Jéré jumped at the opportunity to claim what ended up being a 15-point farm and had backed his farmer up with a second farmer on an adjacent farm before I’d even really thought about retaliating. Rather than face an uphill struggle to overcome a 2 – 0 farmer deficit I decided not to fight back for the farm as I could score more elsewhere with the required meeples. So I left him to it, eventually merging his two farmers onto the same farm to rob him of an extra 3 points he would have got for scoring one city twice.

It was obvious that both of us were making as many opportunities to trap each other as possible but I struggled to trap Jéré anywhere even though he seemed more willing than usual to claim the cloisters he drew. I wasn’t so fortunate and placed a risky meeple in a nice little city that had grown gradually even though both of us had ignored earlier opportunities to claim it. I needed a cfrr to complete it, but Jéré had killed it before the tile came along and I lost a meeple for 6 points in the process. ::)

With just one trapped meeple and no farmers down I wasn’t struggling to keep my score moving along and was especially pleased to draw a frrr tile just when I needed one to prevent Jéré from sharing a longish (10-point) road that I had been building since the start of the game. I then started a new farm on the left, claiming it once it had reached 2 cities. Jéré didn’t want me to have a farm of my own though, and once he’d gotten his own farmer onto it he then sought to take it outright with a second farmer. This didn’t seem worth it to me considering the size of the farm, and that it was his fifth farmer to go down with a fair few tiles left in the bag. I did my best to stop him from joining his second farmer, but he drew the required crfr with just a few tiles left to go and so ensured that I took a grand total of 0 farm points in doing so as I chose not to fight back here either. O:-)

It was strange having meeples to spare in a game against Jéré as he’s usually trapped them all in the first half of the game. So I enjoyed being able to carefully select what I claimed as the game drew to a close, knowing that there was no pressure to complete these features in order to get the meeples back. This was a luxury that Jéré couldn’t enjoy with his one spare meeple (his sixth was in a large but incomplete city that we were sharing). I claimed two cloisters late in the game, and another city too which made things seem pretty even. However, I still thought that Jéré would win overall, especially when he stole my little farm with his second farmer. However, my belief is that if he hadn’t done this and had left it tied that he could easily have scored more than 6 with the spare meeple and won the game. Apparently the farm was just too tempting! :)

Thanks again Jéré. :) :(y)

Any more opinions on when the next tournament in a day should be?

Will we get another one of these going? This sounded like a great time, just a shame I couldn't be a part of it!

I would also be super keen to try this again.

But being "interested" is not enough, we need people that actually show up when the tournament is live!  :o

This was mentioned on the Slack channel today so I thought I'd look it up, and it turns out it's been almost a year since we ran this!

So...

Anyone up for a "Tournament in a Day" again this August?

Yes if time permitting.
Given that I'm probably eliminated in the first round, it's probably gonna work for me.
I'll be in GMT+2 (Baarle-Hertog time, OK, that isn't very helpful, alright, Paris time) 13/08 to 31/08. But, I'm gonna rely on the wifi in the hotel. So, we definitely need a waiting list this time.
