Title: Carcassonne Expansion 6 new edition
Post by: Gabrielgeek01 on January 03, 2017, 12:47:07 AM
Hi everyone. I don't know if this is news, but browsing the Schmidt Spiele pages I found this picture of the upcoming expansion 6, Graf König und Konsorten:

It's the reprint of expansion 6: Count, King and Cult. Looks like yet another expansion is getting made in the new art. I imagine it will be identical to the last version except some added Gardens.

Here's the link to the page: https://www.schmidtspiele.de/de/produkte/spiele/details/product/carcassonne-graf-koenig-und-konsorten-48266.html

The description is exactly the same as the old one (including the now awkward comment that the Cult is brand new) :

I wonder what the Production runs are for these.  This expansion is obviously less popular than I&C and T&B, but they may not have known that when they made it in the old art.  I just wonder if the new art expansion 6 will be harder to find than the old art one.

Looking forward to seeing the castle tokens for the new artwork! I don't suppose the bridges will be any different to the old ones, unless of course they have gardens on them too...

I wonder if it's worth seeking out a contact at Schmidt Spiele who might be prepared to share some of the insider-only news about what 2017 has in store for Carcassonne with it's largest English-speaking collection of fans?

You might be thinking of the wrong expansion...

Indeed I am. Thanks JB. Please forget I said anything, but then remember it again when expansion 8 comes out.

As a non-2.0 player, I am nevertheless mildly curious as to how the City of Carcassonne will look from the Count part of this expansion. Should we assume that they'll go for one large tile rather than 12 standard ones?

I'm not sure the single tile fits in the expansion small box

Anyway, if they follow the classic numbering, next is the Catapult...

No, the single 3x4 tile will not fit in the expansion box. The biggest they could fit would be two tiles that were 2x3, or combine them into one if it folded in half. My guess is that they will just stick with the 12 tile arrangement they have now, but bigger would be more convenient.

I'm sure it will be, but it has not been announced yet on the ZMAN website. I do have an email from months ago saying that they plan on releasing all the main expansions and minis in the USA. It also said that they would try to release any promo expansions they could get permission to release.

Here is my email from Steven Kimball (Head of Studio for Z-Man):

Hi Michael,

Thanks for contacting Z-Man.

Hans im Gluck owns Carcassonne, and we are their English-language partner. When they produce a reprint (including these “new art 2.0” releases) or a new expansion, we join their production. The games are printed in Germany, so with time for overseas transit, our games are released relatively soon after the German version is released in Europe.

Very few of the mini-expansions were not previously, if ever, available in English. Z-Man was recently acquired by Asmodee, and I am the new Head of Studio for Z-Man. My plan is to make these mini-expansions available in the future on a rolling basis. With so much transition occurring as a result of the acquisition, this probably won’t happen soon, but it is on the horizon.

Thanks for your interest in Z-Man and Carcassonne. Keep an eye out for these releases to come throughout the year!

Just wondering but do you think there will be any rule changes or new pieces in any of the reprints, or are they likely (judging by the pattern so far) to simply be reprints?

Abbey & Mayor has rule changes for the wagon from what I heard. Clarifications when interacting with other main expansions (1-10) are included. Other than that, There isn't any that I know of.

Yup, noticed this on the shelves late last week. Not sure I'm tempted to buy it. River II is the best part. King & Robber could be interesting sometimes for Catan Players at-least. No real interest in Cultist or Count.

King and Robber Baron is one of my favourites. You don't need the 5 extra tiles either obviously, I just like the emphasis on closing cities/ roads.

The cult contains my favourite tile configuration. And I love the fiddly rules about not having 2 next to another cloister to make the fiddly racing rules about who finished their cloister/cult first a bit easier to understand!
