20 tiles and 4 meeples each. Games would only last about 10 minutes max!

Still, it would be a good starting point for anyone who wants to develop their tile-counting skills!  >:D

Personally I don't really see the point. Is the base game so complicated that there is a need for a watered-down demo version to understand the game?

Plus, artwork 2.0. If you're going to publish a demo version of the game to attract new fans, at least do it in artwork that looks good!  >:D

Jungelboy, you hit the bull's eye! I guess HiG wants to promote the new version with this "demo", since the new version isn't really accepted in Germany.

I see this as something local boardgames shops would use instead of opening a full box to demo the game... So not intended for the general public but I could be mistaken.

Indeed. According to HiG's statement it is explicitly designed for newcomers to take home and practice how new tiles have to be added to the ones on the table.

The box is nice though

I'll take one: it could be useful for travel or for teaching people the game.

I'd be after one too - mainly to inspect the new artwork in person!

Very good point. Maybe HiG are hoping to sell the demo version as a cheaper way of introducing people to the new artwork? That way, they might not think it's so bad when they see it and be more prepared to support the new direction.

Exactly! However, as far as I know the Demo version can't be bought, it is a plain promo for Carcassonne on Tour.

I suppose the larger questions for us are:
1) Are the tiles identical to base game tiles?
2) Are there watermarks on the tiles (it doesn't look like it)?
3) Is there anything else unique about this demo version (such as a rules change)?

If any of those answers are yes, I imagine many people would be interested in this little set. Otherwise, I'll just chock it up to marketing and put my mind at ease. To be fair, with the new art, I'm already 50% less interested, regardless of the answer.

One tile seems to be differ from the basegame. Topleft red meeple, above it. What is that tile? You can see it's not a cloister.

The road is on two sides with something in the center ending the roads. Best guess would be a T-road. Could this be it?

Judging by the picture in the first post, I would say, there are no watermarks.

I think you're right it's the T-Junction:

Decar - the river is not a part from the Demo version of Carcassonne II.

No, but the tile on the bottom left is an example of a carcassonne 2.0 T-junction.

Yes, this looks like it's the the tile I was thinking about.

On another note, didn't realise these tiles were so colourful at such close range. I'm tempted to open my v2.0 now.

That's the funny thing about 2.0. If you look at one tile or a small number of tiles at close range, it looks quite good. But the entire landscape from a distance looks awful.

Just my opinion, of course :)

I think many relates to this. Even me!

As long as we avoid the smaller scales we should be fine.  :brown-meeple:

So, not only is it for people with less time; but also less table space  :(y)

It is odd, that it does not include a scoring track, but 8 meeples per person. ???
Title: Re: Carcassonne Demo
Post by: kettlefish on August 04, 2015, 02:05:22 PM
The demo game has 8 mini meeple (4x blue and 4x red)

there are no watermarks on the tiles.

the rules are without the abbot and also without the farmer.

in the short rules is no word about connecting cities or roads with followers in them.

I don't think this has been posted yet - it looks like the Dutch publisher 999 games is giving away the Carcassonne 2 Demo (along with lots of other goodies!) when you purchase a 999 game in the Netherlands/Belgium.

The score for the cities is without pennants.

The score for the cities is without pennants.

That's a shame. I like how the pennants make certain tiles seem more exciting and valuable, and it's not like they're very difficult to understand is it?

I think scoring pennants would make the city scoring too powerful.  It's strange they were included on two of the cities; maybe it was a last minute decision.

Online only or also at local boardgame shops?

EDIT:  found the answer. It's pretty much everywhere. Full list on the website.
