Title: JCloisterZone playtest
Post by: TheSteveAllen on February 01, 2018, 02:16:21 AM
It might also be a good idea if a group of volunteers of people like myself, assist Farin by helping him to playtest his program. A series of ‘dummy games’ for people who understand the interactions of the various expansions with people reporting problems encountered to Farin might be worth consideration. I, for one, would be more than willing to help, if I can find an equally willing partner.

I like this idea and would be happy to sign up, especially if we can give ourselves a cool name like "Dumbledore's Army" (but for farin).

You can call yourself "the Defenders of the CloisterZone"

Is anyone else willing to help out, either with or without a silly name?

You can count me in as well!  Farin does a great job but he can use a helping Army...as long as we're not an Army of Zombies...i'm in.  ;)

I don't mind helping playtest at all.  Just be aware that I may be playing something slightly wrong and embarrass myself by incorrectly listing a bug.

I was a software validator for video games in my youth.   :)

I have played all the expansions large and small with at least 2 others in various campaigns during lunch hours at work.  I'd like to have Carcassonne rules as my Mastermind specialist subject....so, I'm in!

Power to the Meeples (In a Citizen Smith sort of a way)

Gentlemen, thanks for your support on this.

Since my reported testing, Farin has been working hard at de-bugging 4.1.1 and has produced a pre-release version of 4.1.2 to play with an test for the problems that have been reported.

I suggest that we arrange a few testing matches to try out this version over the weekend with special regard to how The Count of Carcassonne interacts with the Barn and the Pig, which to a layman like myself, seems to be a root cause of a lot of the problems.

I am suggesting that we look at getting together on Sunday to play a few games using A&M, Count of Carcassonne and T&B as a minimum.

If you are interested, please PM me, and we can sort out our modus operandi.

Just tried a quick game.....I am going to read the rules for The Count and ability to place farmers from the City of Carcassonne in a barn field prior to end of game.

I didn't place as well as I'd hoped.

Moving a farmer from the market quarter, a follower may be moved to a farm with comment 224 was not a nuance that I had taken on board.  Playing with the City of Carcassonne / Count has given me a renewed appreciation for the minor expansion.

Gentlemen,

Farin has been working hard all weekend fixing the bugs that we have highlighted. He is, at the moment, fixing a couple of things that I told him about this afternoon, and he will be giving a a new pre-release version of 4.2.0 (not the one that I told you about yesterday). I should be in receipt of this newest version later today, and I will making it available for us to test tonight.

I suggest that we get as many games going as possible using the World Cup QF set-up, with a view to trying out as many 'edgy' tactics that we can think of trying out. The games should not be competitive, they should be collaborative to try out if things work as they should.

I will be around on both Slack and IRC chat rooms trying to find opponents for us all. We should also try a 3 person game if at all possible.

Hope to see you all later!

One thing that I forgot to mention - please ensure that you know how to take screenshots and how to save games in places that they can easily be found so that we can send these to Farin for him to use in debugging.

I know that this sounds obvious but, until yesterday, I was not certain where my saved games were being kept.  :-[

A big thanks to everyone who played the tester games tonight. It is a shame that Halfling managed to break a good run at the eleventh hour by successfully removing a barn using the crop circle.

Given the fact that I have been playing the QF set-up all night (3 games against opponents and 1 solo run), and I have seen only 1 confirmed bug, it would appear that the end is in sight.

We also owe Farin a big 'thanks' for his work this weekend to get it so close!! He appear to work on JCZ for 24 hours a day!! Give the man a merit at least!

That has been reported, fixed and tested as working (by thodekey and myself last night).
