The tiles clearly look like Carcassonne 2.0 tiles- so why the rules show them in a Carcassonne 1.0 game? It makes it worse somehow...

They actually don't really look like carcassonne 2.0 tiles, if you look at the cloister in the right upper corner. you can see that the road is the same.
The color of green also matches better to Carc 1.0.

I think i can live with it to play it with carc 1.0 better then carc 2.0 (although the buddha really looks different to me)

Ha ha, great work. This tickled me too.

For me, the tiles looked much better than I was expecting. And although I agree that they certainly don't go with the Winter Edition, in my opinion they fit similarly well with either the old or new artwork which is definitely a good thing. So they're a big :(y) from me!

I am counting them as in my Carc 2.0 collection, do we know for sure which artist illustrated these tiles?

I'd say the fit similarly badly. At least the colour of the gras is awful. Still, they must fit the German Cathedrals well. :D

I think the tiles are designed with new artwork. At least the field is clearly Carc 2. And also the street doesn't look exactly like the Carc 1 street on the picture, but more like one of the Carc 2 streets.

Sorry icydarkstary - PM's are always a bit funny - when ever I go in they all get marked as read even if I didn't read them :(

I had some small information about Japanese Temples -  The expansion was designed by someone in Japan, it was known to be coming - but the details were secret and the date unknown; so my email surprised them.

Most of you know what the Temples are, but this is some nice information from my contact:
1) kinkaku-ji in Kyoto it means "Temple of the Golden Pavilion".
2) kaminari-mon in Tokyo(near sensō-ji) it means "lightning gate".
3) gojyu-no-tō in Nara It means "Five-story pagoda".
4) Himeji castle in Hyōgo
5) goryōkaku in Hokkaidō it means "Five-sided fortification".
6) Daibutsu,kamakura

Mine arrived today, although I don't actually have them yet, as they got shipped to my parent's house.

Here are the rules and the tiles next to some other tiles in a fake game.

http://imgur.com/a/BJNka

(the other two pages of the rules are just Wikipedia articles of the buildings. Literally, the source on the pages is Wikipedia)

Don't be fooled by the pictures, the grass colors don't exactly match (although it's pretty close). Also note the rules actually show the Japanese buildings in the old art style (not the tile pictures, the diagrams and examples), when these were clearly in 2.0 style.

I don't think I'll remove the old monasteries as the rules suggest. I don't really see why, unless you were short on time or something. Drawing one of these late game seems like you could easily net a ton of points, especially if the river is being used and you have a couple of long stretches of land.

Intersting that this expansion was made for the original art but them moved to the new art. It definitely shows this expansion has been in the works for a while and that it was a conscious effort by Hans im Glück to make it the first promo expansion in new art. Kind of weird, though, and I have to question using Wikipedia for the sources. Is Wikipedia the source for the Japanese rules, too?

Doris Mathäus didn't do the feature art, did she? That would be a weird amalgam if she did.

here are the last few pages, showing Wikipedia being used as a source for the historical context

I couldn't find anything in the directions on who did the art.

This expansion is kind of weird.

They were so lazy that they literally copy-pasted the Wikipedia link for the final entry without first checking how stupid that link appears. Typing in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kōtoku-in is a much better and cleaner way of getting to that page, and it looks better too. Poor HiG, they don't use Apple Computers because if they did, they would know that "Option-A" + "o" makes "ō" on the International keyboard. Or they could have just copy/pasted the link from any non-Internet Explorer browser.

Why do you all think its new art? The grass is so much different from the carc 2.0 version.
