Title: Basegame League - Round 3
Post by: danisthirty on February 18, 2019, 03:01:29 PM
Round 3

The full list of all fixtures for Rounds 1 to 11 (including results from previous rounds) can be found here: http://tournamentscheduler.net/schedule/NzAwODE4MjQzNg (but please don't play any of your opponents from any future rounds yet as we're going to take it one round at a time). :(y)

Please aim to play your match as soon as you're able to, but let's aim to have the round wrapped-up before the end of next week (Sunday 3rd March). If we finish earlier than this, we will of course move on to Round 4 as soon as we're able!

Good luck to everyone; and when you do get round to playing your match please don't forget to post the results and any screenshots you have here on this post! Thanks C:-)

I've just about recovered from two exciting games this evening against Mr Numbers. Sorry - I messed up the screenshots. I also need to work out where and what "Slack" is so I can chat to opponents?

MrNumbers 89 Riker 99

This game came down to a 50/50 tile draw on the last go and I got lucky. Had the tiles been drawn the other way around I would have lost.

Riker 95 MrNumers 80

Again I felt I had much the better of the tile draw, particularly early on when I drew lots of finishing city pieces. Those early points can be seen in the final totals for cities.

Congrats JackFace and Riker; looks like it's been a good round for the UK-based participants so far!

I've messaged Bekse but am still waiting for a response. Hopefully we'll be able to play our game soon though.

Any news from anyone else?

Not for all of us... I know that some of the folk in Cornwall are seeking independence but, as far as I know, we are still part of the UK... JackFace - 2 - dronedrone - 0

A 1-1 draw with Leven

I started the first game, and got lucky with the last tile.

All my meeples trapped for most of game 2!

LaplazadeCarcassonne 96 vs Sinscerly 107 -- difference 11
Sinscerly 79 vs LaplazadeCarcassonne 93   -- difference 12

First game was quite about the points, I managed to finish some late projects, while laplazadeCarcassonne had no meeples left anymore.

Second game was quite stupid from me, I've let myself gotten blocked... and had no meeples left on the end, so congratz LaplazadeCarcassonne for that one.

Were some good games, now all you finish your game so I can get to round 4!!! >:D >:D

The result was a convincing 2 - 0 to Bekse (especially with the second game)

Game 1:

This game had it all. It was delayed because I was suffering from connectivity problems. Then we finally managed to get a game going on the online server but it crashed and the game was lost. We started again with me hosting the game, which also crashed, but I was at least able to save it and reload it (after 4 or 5 attempts) and we managed to finish this game successfully with Bekse controlling the game throughout and taking a 4pt win at the end of (what felt to me like) a close and evenly-matched game.

Game 2:

Grr. This one was a disaster. I could blame my massive loss on the fact that my son woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep so I had to relocate to the sofa and had him sitting on me, or I could blame it on the tiles which seemed against me from the start. But ultimately I just wasn't really in the game and couldn't get back into it once Bekse had expertly punished me for taking too many increasingly desperate risks. Next time I'll get Adda to take my place. Sorry for not putting up much of a fight in this one Bekse... :(

2pts +48PD to Bekse
0pts -48PD to me

Onward and upward!

Correct - we just have Rosco vs TheSteveAllen to go and then we can kick off Round 4 :) :(y)

I'm hoping that the final match of this round will be played within the next couple of days. Then we will go into Round 4.

How do you mean?
Title: Re: Basegame League - Round 3

Something like: "games must be played in the next 2 weeks"

Something like: "games must be played in the next 2 weeks"

Indeed. That's the intention anyway. The difficulty comes when this period elapses and there are still games to be played. What do you do? You can say no result = no points are awarded to either player, but this isn't fair as it's usually the case that one player has genuinely tried to make the match happen whereas the other hasn't. Should both be penalised in the same way even though one player is more to blame? However, if you do try to apportion blame to just one player then this is usually their cue to take it personally and up and leave in the middle of the tournament. Then it becomes a mess. :(

I'm aware that some players are more restless than others, and it can be a struggle when rounds drag on for longer than most of us would like them to. I feel the same way. But people have lives outside of Carcassonne too, and sometimes these delays occur regardless of our best intentions. I know it's frustrating, but for me it's more important that people who experience whatever difficulty remain part of the competition despite this, and I would say the same of any other competitor including yourself under the same circumstances. :(y)

I'm glad you're enjoying the competition (I know I am), so if it's not running as quickly as you'd like it to I'd be happy to offer myself as a sparring partner for a few games while we wait for the next round to begin? If anything I'd love to avenge our second game from this round (or at least not lose by such a huge margin again!) >:D

Before anyone goes blaming Rosco for not getting his match played on time, I would like to point out that he has made every possible attempt to play.

Unfortunately, I have been out of the country for a week, at a date that I was only aware of a few days beforehand, and playing on my iPhone was not really possible nor sensible.

Rosco and myself are playing tonight.

My apologies for the delay.

Thesteveallen and i played our games today.  They were quite tense and went down to the wire! In both cases the final outcome came down to the last 2 or three tiles each.  Not sure how much was clever tile set up with what i had or lucky tile draw but i got the drop and came out on top.

Congratulations on your win Rosco; the 2 points you take from the final match of Round 3 mean you're now at the top of the leader board by an impressive margin! It's hard to believe, but Excel tables never lie:

It looks as though Round 3 has really shaken things up a bit, and with 8 rounds left to come there's almost certainly a fair amount of shaking yet to be seen. Round 4 is where heroes are made and nightmares come true...

Round 4 is now live! You can access the thread for it, including fixture list, by following this link (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4225.msg62208#msg62208).
