Title: Alternate Colors for Tunnel tokens
Post by: catron1601 on January 20, 2015, 07:20:43 PM
Not sure if this is the correct spot for this or not, but I just recently purchased the alternate colors for my Carcassonne game. One of my friends has given me The Tunnels expansion. My OCD kicked in and I've spent the last 2 days trying to find the alternate colors for the tunnel tokens. I have a feeling that HiG won't ever release any actual alternate colored pieces, but I figured that someone else besides me has had this issue.

Has anyone ever made a fan version of the tunnel tokens with the alternate colors? I'm not very good at image manipulation in order to make my own. Plus I didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

Welcome to the forums catron1601!  :)

This has long been a thorn in my side too, as most other expansions you can simply double-up on whatever extra pieces you need to allow for a 12-player game by buying them again. With the tunnels this isn't possible because they use the specific colours that relate to the 6 basic Carcassonne colours.

I'm not sure if anybody has already created tunnel tokens in the alternate colours (orange, pink, purple, brown, white and "unpainted"?) but I know there are plenty of very talented forum members here who certainly could do. Does anyone else have any more information regarding this?

PS - What would an "unpainted" tunnel token look like?!  ???

Aloha! :)

Interesting topic! I'm in the process of making pink and brown tunnel tokens.. :) You need polymer clay in the right color (the color you want the token to be), a round cutter that is the same size as the real tunnel tokens, Fimo clear liquid clay, ink jet printer, some PhotoShop skills, an oven and patience.. :) maybe  scissors or exacto-knife if you need to trim the tokens..

Right now I have the rest but not the ink jet printer.. :(

You see, when you first bake the round tokens of polymer clay, in whatever color you want (30 minutes 110 C)... you then need to print out a sheet of paper with the tunnels on them, then put a thin layer of clear liquid clay on them, bake them for 20 minutes 110 C... then when you remove the paper from the clay, the ink will stick to the clear clay, giving you the tunnel... then simply add another thin layer of liquid clay to the already baked colored token, add the thin tunnel layer, and bake again for 20 minutes... voila.. they are stuck together.. :) done.

it will not work with laser printer.. I tried.. :(

Here is the PhotoShopped sheet A4 of the tunnels in real size.. that you need to print out with ink jet printer... and pour a thin layer of Fimo liquid clay on.. and bake.. :)

I just had a quick go at making print-out tunnel tokens in the extra 6 colours:

I think they turned out rather well, hopefully some use to you all :)  (Click the images for bigger versions for your own printing - they should be the right size!)

Thanks guys for the replies! I'm going to be printing the extra colors out (thanks eddebaby!) and trying to replicate the thickness of the tiles without destroying any. I had originally thought about getting a second set of the tunnel tokens and putting a sticker on top, but I don't want someone else to not have the set. Although, if the actual tiles are different, I might combine the tiles and still have the extra set to put stickers on...

*runs off to ebay*

Alternative solution: buy a set of 15mm wooden discs from MeepleSource. Minimum order quantity is ten, so you either end up with 8 extra discs of each color, or buy a 10-pack of unpainted discs and paint them yourself.

http://www.meeplesource.com/proddetail.php?prod=UnpaintedDiscs2 (http://www.meeplesource.com/proddetail.php?prod=UnpaintedDiscs2)

Then print some tunnel icons onto mailing labels and cut into circles; I expect the scrapbooking community has some device that can cut a 10mm circle. Stick them to the discs, and you're good to go.

Maybe we can convince Ted to make these for us? He got permission to make tunnel tokens for Adults of Carcassonne...

I'd love for someone to sell a set of alternative tunnels and Phantoms.
