Here are some Catapult tokens where I have added a coloured border to them with enough for 12 players:

(Click the image to go to a higher resolution version which should be fit for 300dpi printing.)

Also included are the extra 6 coloured tunnel tokens. Print two copies if you want to have the colour border on both sides of the Catapult tokens. You can then either stick them on the existing tokens or use spare/blank Carcassonne tiles or any other spare thick cardboard and cut to size.

This topic has sort of been discussed before, but some new expansions have emerged since then, and I'm always interested in new ideas:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=545

Everything that was covered previously appears to have been covered again, and in greater detail! I'd really like to see us develop a best-possible solution to this question, and then perhaps added  to the CAR? I think addressing it on a per-player basis is the best approach, so that people can easily calculate how much of everything they need to buy for however many players they want to be able to support.

Considering the challenges in acquiring extra tunnel tokens and little buildings, I wonder whether those should be moved to the optional components list. I feel that it is not fair to recommend purchasing something that is not easily available from Carcassonne Shoppe or Cundco.

I'd like to see some more research to support what an appropriate number of tower pieces should be. I'm ok with adding more tower pieces, but should it really level out at 5 per player, or should it decrease further to 4 per player? I still lean towards the idea of leaving things like tower pieces and bridges in a shared pool rather than allocating specific numbers to each player, but I acknowledge that this opinion may not be shared by others. Perhaps this idea could be included as an alternative.

Thanks Scott, I have tried to modify my previous post, items in italics are derived from the assumption that we need "more" playing pieces because there are more than 6 players. As far as I can see, the only expansion describing more than 6 players is the Halflings. I have also added rule clarification where I can (in bold, from the S-CAR v7.3) from the corresponding "Preparation" sections.

If we consider each extra player in a game with more than 6 players (making sure players are no worse off than with 6 players), then each player will need:

– 1 Complete Follower and Figure Sets (in appropriate colour) [Alternate colour Phantoms not available  :(y) :@ Carcatronn :(y):@ ]
– 1 Extra 50/100 counter (1 per player)  [In case all players score over 50]
– 1 Extra Abbey Tile (1 per player) [At the beginning of the game, every player receives one abbey tile]
– 2 Halfling Tiles [{mix} all triangular tiles face down, and {give} 2 to each player]
– 1 of each type of catapult token (1 of each per player) [Every player {...} receives 1 catapult token of each type—a total of 4 for each player.] [These could be shared without much difficulty, no player colour on tokens]

1 pair of Tunnel tokens (in appropriate colour) [Every player receives the tunnel tokens corresponding to his or her color. In games of 2, each player may use 3 sets of tokens; in games with 3 players, each may use 2 sets.] [Maybe you should also add enough tunnel entrances on tiles for the number of players too.]
1 of each Little Buildings (3 Buildings total per player) [Distribute the 18 {...} buildings evenly among all players. In the 4 or 5 player game, put the excess buildings back into the box.]
5 Extra Tower pieces [Each player receives a number of tower pieces, according to the total number of players: 2 players: 10 pieces each, 3 players: 9 pieces each, 4 players: 7 pieces each, 5 players: 6 pieces each, 6 players: 5 pieces each]
2 Extra Bridges (2 per player) [With 2 to 4 players, each receives 3 bridges and 3 castles.]
2 Extra Castles (2 per player) [With 5 or 6 players, each receives 2 bridges and 2 castles.]

Maybe we can get clarification from HiG? Preferably to at least 12 players?

P.S. Little Buildings is available (for €2.99) from cundco.de

Wow! This is an amazing topic - so many details I've missed when trying to prepare for a 7+ player game (Not had one yet, but I have 9 player-sets now). I had only thought about the score tiles, meeples and abbey tiles.

So, the 8-Player Kit for a MegaGame includes:
– 2 Sets of Tunnel tokens (in variant colors)
– 2 Sets of Little Buildings
– 10 Extra Tower pieces
– 4 Extra Bridges
– 4 Extra Castles
– 2 Extra 50/100 counters
– 2 Complete Follower and Figure Sets (in appropriate colors)

Optional components:
– 2 Sets of Catapult tokens (because for target practice, you need your own!)
– Both sets of Halflings

If we consider each extra player in a game with more than 6 players (making sure players are no worse off than with 6 players), then each player will need:

– 1 Complete Follower and Figure Sets (in appropriate color) [Alternate colour Phantoms not available  :(y) :@ Carcatronn :(y):@ ]
– 1 pair of Tunnel tokens (in appropriate color) [Maybe you should also add enough tunnel entrances on tiles for the number of players too.]
– 1 of each Little Buildings (3 Buildings total)
– 5 Extra Tower pieces
– 2 Extra Bridges
– 2 Extra Castles
– 1 Extra 50/100 counters
– 1 Abbey Tile
– 2 Halfling Tiles
– 1 of each type of catapult token (These could be shared without much difficulty)

Anything else we've missed?

I just had a quick go at making print-out tunnel tokens in the extra 6 colours:

I think they turned out rather well, hopefully some use to you all :)  (Click the images for bigger versions for your own printing - they should be the right size!)

Hello kettlefish,

Yes indeed! I got a complete set of orange meeple, some pink and purple meeple (to complete the set from BB5), a set of meeple stickers, 2!! Spiel 14 tiles and a set of meeple-themed pretend hazard stickers - all as a present for Xmas (I also received the Big Box 5 too ;D ) . I haven't a lot of time to post at the moment, when I do have some more time, I will show off my collection and customised Big Box to you all. :@

The promotion is over now right?

This is the poem Carla and I submitted (well she actually wrote it, and I just clicked the buttons on the website):

Dear Santa Claus, with thoughts of snow,
I write to you care of CundCo.
There are so many things I wished
To put down on my Christmas list.
But first of these, if I speak plain,
Would be the tile "Spiel '14".
I really hope they're not all gone
'Cause I love playing Carcassonne!

:blue-meeple: For those of you who aren't fluent in german - 14 is spelled "vierzehn" :blue-meeple:

What you guys think about this.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/lamm77/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

If you check their completed listings you can see they have made quite a bit of profit from spielmaterial.de's wooden pieces/ their own rules. I think some collectors only look at ebay and seemingly bid high amounts on something they haven't seen before - this seller has found a good opportunity to take advantage of that sort of mentality.
Probably legally fine though  O:-)  :(n)   >:D   :(y) C:-)

The Marketplace / Re: Wheel of Fortune
« on: November 04, 2014, 07:46:07 AM »
I just wanted to weigh in on this topic again - I'm still trying to decide if I need to get Wheel of Fortune AND Big Box 5, or only one.  ???
Either way I have done some research on this "expansion" and where to buy it.

I'm pretty sure Wheel of Fortune is only available in English (The Wheel of Fortune), Dutch (Het Rad van Fortuin) and German Languages (Das Schicksalsrad) - however the new version included with Big Box 5 (which is available in most of our countries) has a language-independent wheel (it doesn't have any text on it). This might be better suited. Although if you want to have all of the tiles with the watermark you will need to get the stand-alone version, in BB5 only 12 tiles are watermarked.

The Wheel of Fortune and Das Schicksalsrad are both out of print - Het Rad van Fortuin is the only version in print, although you may be able to find the other two if you are lucky or are happy to pay a lot. Das Schicksalsrad also includes a novel, in German, if that interests you.

A lot of online shops in The Netherlands only delivery to their own country (and Belgium too usually) - so finding a way to get Het Rad van Fortuin delivered to you can be difficult. The following shops deliver to the UK (and should to other countries too) - I have listed the price of the game and the shipping cost to the UK:

ShopPriceShipping (to UK) Total (€)
thegamefreak.nl€ 22.80€ 17.50€ 40.30
boardandgames.com€ 23.50€ 9.99€ 33.49
boardgameshop.eu€ 22.50€ 18.00€ 40.50
spelmagazijn.be€ 22.95€ 12.50€ 35.45
summoner.nl€ 21.95€ 15.00€ 36.95

They are all around the same price but the shipping costs vary greatly. Big Box 5 can be had for €42 (plus shipping) on Amazon.de and would, for example, cost about €7.50 for shipping to the UK.

Hopefully this is of use to some of you. Happy Shopping! O0

Official Rules / Re: Halflings interaction with other expansions.
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:01:52 AM »
It's my understanding that a "tile", when it comes to interactions with the halflings, means the square area where either a normal, half tile or two half tiles is located. The "gaps" left by the use of a single triangle tile are only relevant in regards to completion/continuation of features (roads/farms/cities).

I base this on the way the rules describe the halflings and cloisters:
Quote from: Wamboyil's English translation of the Rules
Cloisters: When playing with this expansion, a cloister is considered to be completed even if one or more of its surrounding tiles are triangular tiles. In this case, a triangular tile scores as a normal landscape tile (1 point per tile surrounding the cloister). If there are 2 triangular tiles in the same square “space”, they still only count as 1 point (together) for scoring a cloister.

If that's correct then:

In the first picture, you would count 1, 2, 3 (the two triangle tiles), 4 rather than - 1,2,3,4,5 where 3 and 4 are the two triangle tiles.

In the "finishing a City" picture, city parts 4 and 5 only count as one tile.

In the "Cloisters and Darmstadt" picture, Green gets 3 (for majority of meeples) and Grey gets 7 (1 for the cloister, 6 for the surrounding tile spaces that have been occupied by at least 1 tile). In the second of these pictures, Triangle tile 8 counts as a normal tile for the cloister and tiles 6 and 7 count as 1 tile.

With The Flier examples, I would also say that the 2 triangle tiles together count as 1 tile.

It might be safe to assume that 2 adjacent triangle tiles, that have been placed so as to form a normal square tile, are functionally identical to a normal square tile.

14
For anyone who wants to get their hands on this, I suggest you wait until after the "Darmstadt Spielt" in the middle of November. They are going to try and make the tile sheet available online for those that can't attend - should be cheaper than the €20+ they're going for on ebay.de at the moment.
