News and Events / Re: Belgian tournament
« on: January 29, 2024, 09:16:41 AM »
Asmodee don't distribute Carcassonne in Belgium, I believe it's 999 Games for both NL and Belgium.
And they usually outsource the organisation of both BE and NL championships, although they sponsor it of course.

With Belgium being bilingual, I would imagine it shouldn't be an issue for french speaking people to join in.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if there are any rules regarding entry.
Some countries have rules stating you're only allowed to participate if you live in the country, or have the nationality.
For the Dutch championship I know you can always enter, however you are only allowed to represent NL at the World Championships if you have the Dutch nationality (last year the tournament was won by someone from Belgium, so te runner up went to Essen (and came in 3rd overall)

Good luck! The 4-player games can be tricky and catch people out, so best to practise those!

Very nice! Must've been hard to find!
But do you have the Spiel 1 tile though?  ;)

I got a visit from mister postman today as I was in the office;

With this arrival, I am almost complete in my line up of C3 base games. Only 1 remaining, which is waiting for me at my parents, so I'll soon have them all together!

My good friend the postman stopped by this morning, and brought me these!

My friend from the Ukraine has been great finding the Russian copy of the Discovery, and added a copy of the Ukrainian Carcassonne Junior at my request!
Very happy with these 2!

Pretty much, yeah.
The scoretrack is printed in the wrong side of the cardboard, and the other side is white.
They got 2 stickers on them, had KJW sign them and gave them very simple rules. Then sell them for charity, and its become a true collectors item now, as I believe there were only 250 of them

Thanks Scott! And also for getting them to offer 8-meeple sets, instead of the silly 6 hahahaha
Now I'm still in doubt, however let's see what happens....

Beautiful piece! :)

My Carcassonne collection is complete except for this points counter...

Of course congratulations on this trade!
Define "complete" there's always more to look for  >:D >:D

The story behind them i find more interesting than the scoreboard itself, but it is a fun entry into the world of Carcassonne  ;D
Congrats on finding one, and hopefully it didn't costs you an arm and/or leg  ;)

Glad it got sorted.
It's all trickier these days, with so many browsers and configurations to keep in mind.
Almost makes you want to go back to the days of just Internet Explorer (please don't; it was horrible hahahaha)

News and Events / 30th Anniversary Gathering of Friends Meeple
« on: January 20, 2024, 04:21:43 AM »
Hey all!

A while back, someone shared an eBay listing for a bag with translucent meeple. This set was said to be a special giveaway at the Gathering of Friends convention in 2019. One of only 300 sets.

As I hadn't heard of these yet, and the asking price was very high, I actually contacted HiG to ask if they knew about these, and if they could confirm they were indeed from a giveaway from them.

Very soon, I got a response, that they indeed were involved with a giveaway at the Gathering of Friends. Moritz had commented that he remembered these, and I was told that if something has the HiG and Cundco logos, it's often really from them, as not many people internationally know of Cundco so they want to promote that.

So I contacted the seller on eBay, to see if something could be worked out. The eBay global shipping put a very high shipping price on them, so I was hesitant for that, but fairly quickly the seller suggested to continue the conversation on BGG.
On BGG we managed to work something out, and a few days ago I received them!

The Gathering of Friends convention seems to be an invitation only event, in the US. Haven't been able to find much about it, other than some reports from people who've been.
When talking on discord, the general thought seems to be that the organisers may have gotten a bunch of meeple sets from HiG and put the sticker on the bags, with their permission of use if the logos.

HiG confirmed that they are the standard translucent meeple sets, but somehow I still wanted them, so here we go!

Those bonus winter tiles look really nice! Hope you have a good game with them soon Scott!
And yeah, the meeple look all to have a slightly different shade from the "originals". Perhaps done on purpose my Meeplesource to not be told off by someone  C:-)

The pest is here! :D
Good surprise: it came with the Spielbox magasine, it wasn't specified when I ordered it :)

That is a great surprise!

Wheel of Fortune could be seen as both, like Mists over Carcassonne.
Winter edition, if it's not a spin off, how would you classify it?
It doesn't have its own rules, so I can imagine it's not as clearly different from the base game as other games, however keeping terminology for 1 or 2 games out of ~20 doesn't seem practical  ;D
They are not the base game, not are they a clear cut expansion, so spin off works for me

Congratulations to @Challa007 !! This was a difficult one, so really well done!

And of course thanks to @Meepledrone for organising this quiz! (And the Grinch for not making it easy for us)

I was going to check mine, but this works great!
Thanks for checking, Scott!

The main difference to see is how saturated the colours are on the box. The front is easier to distinguish than the back though, so you might want to ask for a better picture of the front.
You can also look at the tiles themselves. Unfortunately my fake copy is sealed, so i dont have pictures for direct comparison, but i believe you should be able to tell from the thickness for example.
From the small picture of the front, it doesn't look too saturated or darker, compared to the Safari box next to it, which is a good sign, but the picture is very small unfortunately

That is definitely a great set of new arrivals!
Some great games to be had!

And if it's $85 AUD, then it could be reasonable for New World; depends on your preference of course.
I've once paid that for a base game  :o
