3 player 467 tiles game.
« on: December 05, 2014, 03:21:54 PM »
Hello all,

I want to share a game from me and my little brothers today..
467 Tiles (if i count correctly, including starting tiles and halflings)

This was the Most Exausting game I ever played..
I didn't give up though..

In the process I lost 1 of the little buildings.. its really no where to be found.

This was our Start-up.. half of the tiles in the bag the rest on the table

So here are 3 rivers.. And we already lost the view over the board..

And then Before dinner

We really had to move the score board and all other pieces to fit everything on the table..
This was near the end

All followers counted and all tiles are on the table..

In the end we had a 34 city big farm, with 2 connected Barns. on it some castles, besiegers and little buildings giving both me and my little brother 162 Points..
The monasteries were extremely powerfull. lucky most of us had 2.

End scoring:

Red: 759
Black: 689 ( me)
Yellow: 535

So my review:

This was exhausting.. So many tiles.. it just took long... i dont complain about it. but the move gets faster and faster and you think less about every move..

we almost didn't steal any features.. The count was still on his place.. the fairy wasnt used and the dragon only ate a few followers.

For me it was the first time i used the phantom and the bridges and bazaars.. the bazaars werent really usefull.. because most of the time the got sold for 1 or 2 points..
the Bridges make really big farms.. and the phantom is more a normal follower in this big game, due to lack of followers.

all in all it was fun to finally use Almost all my expansions and tiles. the game took 7 hours ( including a dinner break and a cookie break)

Set-up
I used the following things:

Everyone had all followers (including houses, bridges, castles)

2 x Carcassonne:
2 x The River: (1 normal, 1 BB5)
2 x Inns & Cathedrals:
2 x Traders & Builders:
The Princess & The Dragon:
The River II:
Abbey & Mayor:
Count, King & Consorts: (all tiles, except king and robber tile)
Wheel of Fortune: (only 12 expansion tiles)
Bridges, Castles and Bazaars:
The Festival / 10 Year Special Edition:
The Phantom:
The School:
The Flier:
The Ferries:
The Goldmines:
Mage & Witch:
The Robber:
Crop/Corn Circles 2:
The Windroses:
Little Buildings / The Houses:
2 x Die Belagerer:
Sheep & Hills:
Half and Half (Spielbox): (2 tiles each player)
Half and Half (CundCo): (2 tiles each player)
Darmstadt:
German Monasteries and De Kloosters: (shuffled the 18 tiles (i have 2 x klooster) and draw 6 of them)

I choose not to use the messengers (i dont like them), i ony used 6 of the 18 monasteries, and i didnt use the plague (to many tiles..)

Nice! I always love the look of a table filled with tiles. :(y)

We have played games with over 1000 tiles and 4 players without anyone losing interest. But all the players were more than 40 years old. Maybe the patience comes with age? ;)

Great! Must be the season for MegaCarc.

Love the picture and the info. It's helpful for us!
We're planning one this month in Australia with about 6 or 7 others before I head back to Thailand in the New Year

It's a balance thing, and which expansions to use. With so many rules we missed using so many elements and I got so fed up with Carcassonne for 3 days afterwards, could not even look at it.  ^-^

Why do you use a toothbrush with your Carcassonne game? (Pictures 3 and 4)

Sounds like an expansion idea!

The Toothbrushes - Courtship or Trade
"Courtship in Carcassonne was a complicated ritual, with knights and maidens vying for the attention of each other at the cathedral and the markets. Personal hygiene was largely absent during the Middle Ages, so those lucky knights or maidens who secured a toothbrush amazed their courters with their minty breath and pearly white teeth. Furthermore, toothbrushes could be traded for large quantities of wine, wheat or silk, or even for pigs, barns or gold bars. Use your toothbrush wisely and you could win the game!"

Beautiful game and beautiful photographs
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

a toothbrush is quite easy to make, you get a twig and pound one end until you get individual wood fibres.  The problem is getting the toothpaste and , even harder, getting the toothpaste into the tube.  :@

Hey Steve,

It looks like it really was a great game :-)

90% of the time, I'm playing Carcassonne with my father and mother. Generally we start somewhere around 8pm after I've put my 6 years old son into bed. Sometimes my wife joins us in the game, but she's not really fond of it...

To decide which expansions to use, we just let the dices decide. Firstly we throw with one dice to decide about the basic games: 1, 2, or 3 means only basic game; 4 or 5 means the 72-tile version of Wheel of Fortune; 6 means basic game and Wheel of Fortune.
Then we start throwing with two dice to decide which features we use. In the past we chose complete expansions, nowadays we choose features separately, e.g. Britches, Abbeys, The Princess, etc.
We follow a checklist of the features to let the dice decide which of the 45 features we use. Depending on the amount of time we have, we choose a satisfactory probability. We can use probability 1/12 (combinations 1-1, 1-2, 2-1), 1/9 (add combination 2-2), 1/6 and so on.
By doing this, we always get a completely different game in which different tactics need to be used.

I'm really surprised that you could finish such a big game in only seven hours. When we are playing, we are taking our time to place every tile as good as possible, make sure we take advantage of all the features like The Fairy, the Count and so on...

One of the biggest games we played featured the following expansions (everything I had at that time)

Carcassonne - base game
Wheel of Fortune (72 tile version)
River I
River II
Inns & Cathedrals
Traders & Builders
The Princess & The Dragon
The Tower
Abbey & Mayor
Count, King & Consorts
Bridges, Castles and Bazaars
The Phantom
The Flier
The Ferries
The Goldmines
Mage & Witch
The Robber
The Messages
Corn Circles II

We started at 3pm on Sunday evening and finished it at 7:30am on Monday morning, just in time to leave for work :-)
So, compared to you, we seem to be a little slow :-D
But we like it that way, it never gets boring :-)

...In the process I lost 1 of the little buildings.. its really no where to be found.

Check under the refrigerator. That is almost always where we find our missing bits.  :@

Awesome session report! It was a good read. Thanks.  :(y)
I just drew the perfect tile for my MonKnighThieFarmer!
