The Mafra one looks especially nice. And it doesn't look like it's too far from Lisbon, so I will have to visit it next time :)

I'm going to Madrid for a weekend in July and I'd like to visit El Escorial. Hopefully the expansion is out by then and I can buy it and take the El Escorial tile with me to the monastery.

I bought 30 copies of the base game. They are still unopened.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner already! I don't think Paul's obsession for Carcassonne can ever be matched, even by Dan and his somewhat creepy admissions:green-meeple:

Uh huh...  ???

Absolutely beautiful seeing it from this angle.
World record holder for a single game of Carcassonne using 10 007 tiles!

You've got nothing! I think it would be neat to take a photo of the tile with the actual monastery in the background. That's not at all creepy; it's pretty cool actually.  O0

You play games of Carcassonne in your head and refuse to talk to anyone when it's your turn, which is ALL THE TIME because you're playing IN YOUR HEAD!  >:D

(Edit: Just kidding, of course.)

There hasn't been any news on the Spanish monasteries since the original selection competition in early April and Devir has removed some of the related posts from its Facebook page, which doesn't sound promising. After Carcassonne Pieza de Inicio did an analysis of the results, Devir said it would announce the results in a few days. That was over a month ago now. I asked them about it on FB two days ago but they haven't replied. So now I am worried that the expansion will not be published.

They are a bit chaotic normally. They'll usually reprint expansions and release new stuff around september so I wouldn't expect too much before then.
Gotta catch 'em all

Don't get too excited, this is not an update regarding the expansion!

But I thought I'd let you know that I visited El Escorial monastery, near Madrid, on Saturday. It received the most votes in Devir's competition to see what the six Spanish monasteries would be. I'm not thrilled about this result, because it's a post-medieval monastery (built 1563-1584). But anyway, it's still an interesting place to visit (with an amazing library), and here are some pictures in case you're interested:

Those pictures are great! Just what you would hope for in a Monastery. You can sure feel the medieval atmosphere while looking down that stairwell.  :(y)
I just drew the perfect tile for my MonKnighThieFarmer!

Nice photos JB! Did you go and lie sideways on the roof while you were there?  ;)
