Title: Alternate rules for Darmstadt?
Post by: Drodo on July 04, 2020, 11:14:30 AM
I got this expansion as a gift from a friend recently and honestly it has the worst rules out of any mini. 3 extra points, that's it.

I'm sure more people also had this thought, so I'm wondering if someone came up with a better idea.

That is an expensive gift :o
That said, the official rules leave a lot to be desired.

I kinda like the rules for the 2 tiles that act as cloisters. It could be a way for a different player to benefit from finishing them for another player.

The Darmstadium is rubbish, that's indeed just luck of the draw and getting 3 extra points.

Could be interesting for alternative rules though, never really thought about it

I especially like this one, the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalene, because the road surrounds the monastery (it is not interrupted by bushes or anything):

The opposite happens to the other church, the Catholic Church of St. Louis of Toulouse, where you can see bushes clearly interrupting the roads:

Here we can clearly apply Willem's principle about Carcassonne being a visual game.  ;)

I'm moving this thread to the Unofficial Rules board.

Is that road really uninterrupted? Was it stated officially anywhere? I ask after looking at that Crop Circles I tile where it says the road is interrupted but visually it's not.

My joke response aside, I think we should go by the visuals unless stated otherwise. If I remember correctly, German Cathedrals expansion did not originally have bushes on them, but they added them to indicate the roads being separate.
And that was way after CCI.

The best rule for Darmstadt is To sell for a profit and use the proceeds to purchase a game or expansion that you will use and enjoy.

A convention center in the Middle Ages... Really?

It is far worse than implementing big tops and African animals touring Mediaeval Europe. Some acrobats and actors, maybe some musicians  and a tamed bear could have done the trick travelling in wagons. Who knows!

Well I am glad it eases your distaste for this expansion ;). You can even see a part of the fortification on the tile.

Darmstadt is like Darmstadt is. It is only 35km distance. But I visited Darmstadt only 5 times. I don’t like it. My favourite is Mannheim. Hometown of the world famous automotive engineering.
