Title: Spiel Promo tiles - art style(s)
Post by: cicerunner on February 03, 2020, 02:06:04 AM
Looking at the Spiel Promo tiles - http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Spiel_Promos - with an inexperienced eye, I'm not quite sure what art style is being used.
Is it C2 throughout the series? Some of the city artwork definitely looks C2 ...

But I'm not sure. Perhaps different years are using different styles? Or even some years there were two tiles, one for each style?

Any help, much appreciated.

All the tiles are C2 style. The differences are in tone of colours, some of them more dark or more clear but the style is the same, C2.

Especially when you look on the Spiel 14 tile. The city segment is much darker then the city segments of today. So far I know KJW noticed that and request lighter city segments. HiG realised that. So it possible that you have old expansions with darker city segments (called C2.0) and the today used lighter city segments (called C2.1)

IIRC the first four Spiel tiles (2014-2017) were in the 2.0 darker cities.

Great information people, thank you.

I think it was the very dark 2014 city that was putting me off ... Plus groups of people in fields in low res and I'm red green colour blind.

Are they considered highly collectable/valuable? Just curious.

The Spiel tiles have become collector's pieces.

People sell the Spiel tiles on eBay at crazy prices. You can find people selling the Spiel 14 tile for 85€ from time to time, for example. Prices go down gradually for more recent tiles and you can find Spiel 19 tile offers for 15-20€.

I remember I gave 2 aways to friends, I was at Essen that year 2014

Funny to tell them that this tile only is worth more than their whole collection :)

Is that the only way to get them - to be present at the Essen fair? Or are they sold on http://www.cundco.de after the event?
Are they given away at the fair or sold?

Cundco allows you to include one Spiel Tile of that particular year in your orders in early December. This is part of the Niklaus Action campaign. You can do it while the tiles are in stock.

Or at the Spiel in Essen in Germany. End of October. Then you get a tile for free when you purchase something.
