Reviews & Session Reports / Re: First game with CarDcassonne
« on: September 11, 2021, 06:27:18 PM »
First of all, I, too, like the card game very much.

I agree it's very different when adapted to a card game, but that gives it the advantage of not being comparable to the original board game. In my experience, luck tends to play a much more important role in a card game than its board game. This is especially because of the smaller size of the game, e.g. San Juan vs. Puerto Rico.

And I would like to join the batch order if possible. I'm on the east coast in the US, though.

Anyway, what is that: Penghuang?

That's an unknown issue of the auto translation. The original FB post basically says it's only available in Taiwan. They used the more "complete" term, 台澎金馬, so that it is clear the adjacent islands are included, not just the main island.

I finally got my package with all the expansions I ordered. Very excited!
But a bit disappointed that all the rules are in German. Anybody else in the US got the same thing?

Even funnier when the section title reads "Breaking new ground".They really are breaking it.

I don't know whether this is a glitch, but your second post says round 2.
And what is it that is reserved here?

Sinscerly and I have completed round 2. Thanks again for the time, Sinscerly. Those were two very intense games! Well played!

First game.
Sinscerly started off very well with many city tiles while I was mentally struggling with my predominantly road tiles. Later I managed to sneak one more knight each into the two unfinished large cities and rendered Sinscerly's earlier work worthless. He made a series of successful moves regarding farms, claiming, defending, and trying to connect. His farmer near the top right corner was a huge threat ever since it was deployed there, but luck was not on his side.

Second game.
I think since tile 10 we started the constant battle in the 27-point field. He isolated my 9-point farmer very early on, so I knew I had to trap 1 or 2 of his meeples if I didn't want to yield the large field. I managed to trap his monk when he wasn't paying attention to that area (heat was spreading to the NW with all those farmers). I was on the losing side towards the end, but 4 of my last 5 files came in the exact order I needed them. It was just so lucky of me.
My fifth last was the cloister on the left in the 2nd last row, which allowed me to place the ccff tile below it to isolate his 3-point farmer to the right. Otherwise, I would lose the tile in the 27-point field. Then I got the rightmost tile on the map and got 4 points from the city. Then a 6-point field emerged right there and I claimed it in the next turn. Had they shown up the other way, I wouldn't had the free meeple for the 4 points city, which is my exact winning margin.

I won't object to that; more info helps with planning. Just don't want the other players to feel overly pressured, as apparently they haven't finished their round 1.

OK, my parents' generation is notorious for covering the TV with a piece of cloth and the remote in a plastic bag. But plastics on furniture?

Carcassonne Standard 7.4, page 65?

"Any farmers already on the farm are scored immediately, in the same way as at the end of the game."

This sentence does not apply to farmers connected to a barn via the placement of a tile. It applies to farmers who are scored by the placement of the barn. Compare the yellow and red farmers in the diagrams in page 65 and 66, as well as the section titles in those two pages, "placing a barn" vs "a farm is connected". I hope this helps.

Thanks to both!
I'm sorry if my original post sounded impolite. That was just a cry. I hastily wrote it late last night just to confirm that was the case and not that I didn't probe enough. I actually like the new app more, as it looks more "formal".

So, I can no longer play against computers in this version?

45
Same here. I'm in if it's still open.
It's been a while since I last used the JCZ app, so I'll need to confirm that it runs OK on my computer.
I'm in EST. Previous experience suggests that I can only arrange games with the Europe-based players on the weekends, unless they are night owls.
