Title: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXVII
Post by: danisthirty on November 15, 2017, 09:22:37 AM
Yo dudes! 8)

Things have been pretty quiet on the forums lately, which is a bit of a surprise considering that we have the Secret Santa in full swing, my "Spare Bits Giveaway", the next World Cup of Carcassonne Central starting imminently and an influx of overly optimistic cundco customers not getting a Spiel 17 tile. But this is the moment that you have really been waiting for... the... 2017... Carcassonne Central... Advent Quiz! :red-meeple: :white-meeple: :red-meeple:

My personal excitement for this is so great that I tried to run it last year thanks to a triumph of roman numeral confusion, but was convinced to wait until this year for it and to run the 2016 Advent Quiz (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2970.msg44409#msg44409) last year in its place.

If per chance you have no idea what I'm talking about, please follow the following for either the
2016 quiz (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2970.msg44409#msg44409) or the 2015 quiz (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2186.msg30812#msg30812). Can't be bothered to do that? Fine then. Here's a recap:

- Between the 1st and 24th December I will post a single question each day (at a random time), to which the answer will be the name of a member of our community here at CarcC. Going on previous experience, it seems likely that most questions will be fairly easy for most people to answer (I'm the one posing them after all :P), but I won't ever ask anything that a quick and/ or cunning search of the forums won't reveal.

- When you know the answer, don't post it on this thread! :-X Because then everyone will know, and we don't want that. Instead, send me a PM including the question number and your answer for that day. I won't respond to your PM (please don't be offended), but if you get the answer correct you will win one or more quiz points depending on how many others have answered it correctly before you: 3 points for the first person to provide a correct answer, 2 points to the second and 1 point for anyone else who answers correctly. C:-)

- There's no cut-off date for any particular questions so don't despair if you miss any. You can even answer all 24 questions on Christmas eve if you want, but don't expect to score big overall...

- Once Christmas and boxing day are behind us, I will post the correct answers – one at a time – along with who won the big points (or indeed any points) and total scores per participant. This is where it gets really fun! :o :(y)

- The overall winner will be the person with the most points at the end of the quiz, but there is likely to be a small prize for everyone who answers all questions regardless of whether they manage to answer any of them correctly. Last year I gave away something very special indeed, and I'm hoping to think of something even more specialer between now and the end of the quiz. But obviously it will be a surprise. O:-)

Hopefully that's clear? Please check the 2016 quiz thread if you have any specific questions as they might have been asked and answered there, or post here if you're still confused...

You have slightly more than two weeks to learn everything there is to know about your specialist subject: "The life and times of Carcassonne Central in 2017" and I'll post here again soon. Happy revising! ???

You first have to click on the NOTIFY button, right?

You can click the Notify button if you wish to receive email alerts whenever a new message is posted against a specific thread, but I think you should be automatically notified if you post a message of your own on any thread. Maybe it's a settings thing that isn't set for everyone, but that's how it works for me. I get a lot of emails.

Don't do it! Have you seen how many posts Dan makes? your email thingy would be pinging more than a very pingy thingy on a pingy thingy day.

My advice would be to either invest in a ping-less email thingy or to embrace the pingyness regardless of whether it's a pingy or non-pingy day.

Don't worry folks; I pressed the emergency button and Bill's carers have been made aware that another breach has occurred C:-). They apologised for any inconvenience caused and will be monitoring "his medication" more closely once "things" are "under control" again. Yeah yeah yeah, and you probably also still DENY! that the so-called "astronauts" who faked the first "moon landing" were spending their off hours in a sensory deprivation tank, being controlled by their handlers through repeated playings of a special water-proof version of Carcassonne, thirty-one years!! before the "game" was finally declassified and "released" to the "public."

It's fine man, it's all fine. The truth will come out, you can't stop it. Listen to Mary A. Minor! Once people find the hidden code embedded in those 13 a-b-c answers, it will be impossible to stop the truth. It's coming. It's out there. It's

OK, it's time to get this show on the road! Here's the first question...

Q1:
MrNumbers was busy again in July, with his Carcassonne Central Online Quiz. There were a total of six contestants with final scores ranging from 18 to 24 out of 30. But who took first place overall and was able to add a copy of Japanese Monasteries to their collection as a reward?

If you think you know who this was, please PM me with the answer - don't answer here!

Q2:
Thodekey started a wonderful debate about tile counting in January, and most of us admitted that we will at least try to count tiles during games to give an idea of what's left in the bag. But someone was so surprised and disgusted by us all that they felt compelled to start the "Clean Carcassonne" campaign and offered personalised invisible halos to the first 100 people to sign up. Who was this?

If you think you know who this was, please PM me with the answer - don't answer here!

Q3:
The last game of the Mixed Minis League (including The Fliers, The Goldmines, Mage & Witch and Crop Circles 2) was played towards the end of October. Unusually however, there were two players who completed it without losing a single game! One of them went on to win the competition, but who was the other?

Greetings from Brugge! :)

Q4:
For the third year in a row, Decar planned, organised and ran our GenCan't SoloCon competitions in August for those of us who couldn't make it to Gencon. The "Abbots Walk" competition was won with an impressive score of 1137, but which forum member managed this particularly impressive feat?

Greetings from Amsterdam! :)

Q5:
I ran another "Spare Bits Giveaway" in November this year, and was delighted to see the generosity that this inspired in so many forum members! One of the items I gave away was a spare tile from a set of 12 that were originally produced as exclusive prizes for everyone who completed the Advent Quiz last year. Who claimed this in the giveaway?

Greetings from... the sea (somewhere) ???

Q6:
Our 2017 basegame league ran from January to September. This was settled over a total of 210 games of Carcassonne played between 15 of us, with 39,011 points being scored in the process! Two competitors found themselves in potentially winning positions at the start of the final round, but who was it that put Merlin_89 on the receiving end of his only 2 - 0 loss, thus allowing Jéré a chance to snatch the top spot away from him?

Greetings from... home :(

Q7:
In January I proposed the idea of the "10 x 10 challenge" specifically for Carcassonne. This is something I borrowed from BoardGameGeek, but with a twist that involved playing 10 specific expansions on at least 10 occasions each throughout the year. Unfortunately I fell behind after a month or so as I struggled to motivate myself to keep track of all the games I'd played and soon dropped the idea, but not before I'd completed a game against one other CarcC regular via JCloisterZone. Who was this?

Q8:
In June, the announcement of a special, limited edition expansion - "The Market of Leipzig" - left those of us without plans to visit either the Leipzig or Essen game fairs feeling somewhat disappointed, then relieved when it became available on Cundco soon afterwards! But according to their post-Essen report, one forum member spent the first three and a half hours of their annual Essen pilgrimage repeatedly queueing up to get hold of as many boxed copies of this expansion as possible. Who was this?

As much as we all love playing Carcassonne, there's always plenty of room for discussion about other games too. In fact, one particular forum member posted several detailed reviews of various games this year, including Imhotep, MintWorks, Isle of Skye and the Spiel des Jahres award winning Kingdomino. Q10:
This grade four/ five class teacher posted in June to tell us about how they were sharing their passion for Carcassonne with their class. I was particularly impressed that this involved watching a "How to play Carcassonne" video at the start of the school year, and playing boardgames every Friday! However, the best part of the post was that one of the boys in the class was given a Carcassonne set for his birthday as a result of this! Who shared this news with us?

Q11:
Despite our mutual love and appreciation of many boardgames (especially Carcassonne of course), it became apparent in February that some of us have somewhat differing opinions over a certain Swedish furniture/ homeware giant. Few people sat on the fence in this fierce debate and it was lovers vs. haters to the bitter end! One member stood out from the rest of the fans in terms of his commitment though, by admitting to owning a special soundtrack CD that is played in the car during journeys to this particular store. Who could possibly do something like this?

After much searching of sofas, an unlucky forum member discovered in February that they were missing a fairy! :( Fortunately however, another forum member with a spare fairy was on hand to offer a replacement and an agreement was made (presumably) via private message. So today's question is; which forum member was careless enough as to let their fairy escape?

Q14:
Jungleboy brought shame to Carcassonne Central in May when he started a new topic as somewhere to share what games are on our "Shelves of Shame". Some of us admitted to owning far more unplayed games than others, and some of us were too embarrassed to admit how many unplayed games they own... :-[ Carcassonne: The City seems to have brought the most shame overall (which is a shame in itself :'(), but who received a card-based version of Monopoly (this particular version being something that will always have a special place in my heart :-*) as a birthday present and is yet to play it (or was at the the time they posted anyway)?

We were joined in November by a new member seeking advice on which expansion to ask for as a birthday present from their grandma. 24 of us voted between Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders and Princess & Dragon with I & C being the eventual winner (despite not being as much fun as T & B :P). Q16:
In June I gave away a number of tiles that had been signed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede. :(y) I only had 8 to give away which meant they were snapped up very quickly and were soon on their way to their new owners. These tiles came from a variety of expansions including the Festival, Princess & Dragon (a magic portal! 8)) and even a corner of the city of Carcassonne. But which forum member claimed the lake tile from the River expansion?

Q17:
2017 was an especially busy year for postmen and postwomen around the world, especially for the ones delivering to those of us with rapidly growing Carcassonne collections! In one case, an order placed in March and including the 10th large expansion and Halflings (and perhaps also a keyboard and a mouse) took just 4 days to reach the UK. Whose postman went the extra mile (or 500!) to get this parcel to its happy owner so quickly? C:-) :(y)

Q18:
Decar ran a series of polls this year, with the end goal being to discover which non-Carcassonne games are universally enjoyed by Carcassonne fans. It wasn't easy, and with the initial list of nominations totalling 166 well-liked games, those of us who voted in the subsequent polls faced some very tough decisions! The eventual winner was 7 Wonders, followed by Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan and Pandemic. But which forum member nominated "The Game of 49" onto the initial list of games to be included?

Back in May, a member of the community posted about their plans to play a game of Carcassonne including various editions of the basegame, 13 major expansions and 150 fan-made expansions (no cats were allowed). And after 31 days they were forced to stop as there was no space left to carry on! Who was this?

Perhaps understandably, cats were not allowed anywhere near the game of Carcassonne (Catcassonne ;)) I asked about yesterday. But in some parts of the world, certain forums members go to incredible lengths for their cats! One forum member in particular posted back in January about a certain cat tower that had been under construction for 4 years! Which forum member was responsible for this fantastic achievement for their beloved pets?

Q21:
For those of us with *ALL* the Carcassonne but who still have a certain compulsion for buying boardgames, the KickStarter thread is always useful in terms of helping people to find new things on which to spend their money. But it's not just boardgames that get posted about here, as one member in particular was gracious enough to share their recommendation for the boardgaming bowl that everyone must have (bought from a certain Swedish furnitue/ homeware giant that was mentioned in a previous question). Who was this?

If you think you know who this was, please PM me with the answer - don't answer here!

(a slightly easier one today O:-))

Q22:
2017 wasn't a particularly busy year for most of us in terms of sharing details of what else we like to do in our free time, but a few people provided some insight. One of our number not only described what an "abhanga" is (for those of us who had been wondering), but also provided us with a sample of their poetry which included a liturgical prayer inspired by Donald Trump ::). Q23:
Every now and then, our Carcassonne-related discussions can occasionally wander off-track into somewhat unexpected territory. Fortunately however, MrNumbers is determined to keep things Carcassonne, and is always on hand to swoop in and split unrelated posts off into seperate threads when we least expect it! C:-) The resulting spin-off threads can seem a little random, but I always enjoy reading the hilarious topic names that they've been given! :)) One such thread started off as a discussion around the GQ#11 expansion and how it can be used to kill birds, with jungleboy cruelly suggesting that carrots should be sacrificed instead. :'( But who was it that shared a self-defence against fresh fruit video on the same thread?

I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's different Christmas traditions and festive shenanigans this year, and was especially impressed by some of the Carcassonne-themed tree decorations! With this in mind, who likes to invade German Cathedrals with their little metal meeples?

Yes, thanks for all your efforts, Dan. I wasn't able to keep sending in answers, but it was fun checking in from time to time to see what things the questions turned up.

Merry Christmas all!

I have been more aware of each daily question than my monthly payroll.
I really enjoyed this game.
Thank you, Dan.

Merry xmast for all!

Thank you for the quiz Dan. You always seemed to post 5 minutes after I shut down my pc  :P It was fun participating!

OK, apologies for the delay everyone, but I'm hoping I can still get round to posting the correct answers to all of the advent quiz questions (and scores of course) sometime this year. There were more than twice as many participants as last year though, so it's taken me a while to compile all the scores (so much so that I ended up putting them all into a database and using SQL to reduce any manual work as much as possible - but this still took time).

So without further ado, let's go...

Q1:
MrNumbers was busy again in July, with his Carcassonne Central Online Quiz. There were a total of six contestants with final scores ranging from 18 to 24 out of 30. But who took first place overall and was able to add a copy of Japanese Monasteries to their collection as a reward?

I started the quiz with a nice easy one about MrNumbers' awesome Online Quiz. But who won? The answer was: Mikeagain (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2997.msg51113#msg51113) (well done!) Further proof that his was the name I was looking for was later confirmed by his choosing of the Japanese Monasteries (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2997.msg51143#msg51143) as a prize.

Winning response time was: 5m33s

Yeah, so, apparently khalidqasrawi (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3135.msg47336#msg47336) doesn't think very much of tile counting :-[. This was an easy one if you're familiar with Carcassonne Central's search bar as there were plenty of specific keywords in my question that led to the correct answer. As tempting as his offer was though, I've managed so far without a personalised invisible halo and I'm hoping I can keep going without one. O:-)

Q3:
The last game of the Mixed Minis League (including The Fliers, The Goldmines, Mage & Witch and Crop Circles 2) was played towards the end of October. Unusually however, there were two players who completed it without losing a single game! One of them went on to win the competition, but who was the other?

This would have been very tricky for anyone who doesn't follow our online competitions (sorry), but the first part of the answer can be found in the attachment in this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3403.msg52749#msg52749) from MrNumbers. The second part of the answer was here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3557.msg53558#msg53558) where it could be seen that the two unbeaten players from the same group went on to top their groups (unbeaten again) in the final round. However, if you managed to find it, there's always this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3557.msg53559#msg53559) which confirms that Leven was the name I was looking for!

Q4:
For the third year in a row, Decar planned, organised and ran our GenCan't SoloCon competitions in August for those of us who couldn't make it to Gencon. The "Abbots Walk" competition was won with an impressive score of 1137, but which forum member managed this particularly impressive feat?

This one wasn't too taxing as the GenCan't SoloCon posts are quite easy to find, and Decar keeps the leader boards somewhere they can easily be found. So regardless of whether you scrolled down a bit in this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3508.msg52064#msg52064) or happened to spot this submission (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3508.msg52152#msg52152) you should know that the answer I was looking for was the mighty...

I'm still amazed that this wasn't the first thing to be claimed! Fortunately however,
Squiffything (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3610.msg53676#msg53676) had sense enough to claim this wonderful item.

Another slightly tricky one if you didn't know where to look. But if you could find the basegame league threads and were able to determine which one was the final round, it shouldn't have taken too long to find this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3558.msg53130#msg53130) by Adrornalin confirming that his was the name I was looking for (or you might have worked it out from this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3585.msg53265#msg53265) in my overall summary of the competition).

It's a shame I didn't stay up to date with this, but combined with the basegame league (and the rest of my life) I just had too much going on at the time :( Anyway, it can be seen from this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3078.msg46442#msg46442) that the name I was looking for here belongs to... jungleboy!

Another easy one for anyone who has been following the forums this year. Few of us would be as determined as MrNumbers (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3553.msg53508#msg53508) to get our hands on as many copies of this special edition expansion as possible (or to produce such a comprehensive write-up of their Essen experiences afterwards)!

Time for some more answers! ;)

Q9:
As much as we all love playing Carcassonne, there's always plenty of room for discussion about other games too. In fact, one particular forum member posted several detailed reviews of various games this year, including Imhotep, MintWorks, Isle of Skye and the Spiel des Jahres award winning Kingdomino. Who was this?

Decar put together a list of all the reviews that various people have written, which can be found here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3389.msg50180#msg50180). A quick glimpse through this should reveal that the name I was looking for today was: dirk2112

This was supposed to be a tricky one, although everyone who attempted it managed to find the correct answer (some taking somewhat longer than others)! Anyone who was browsing the forums back in June might have remembered reading the "Indoctrinating others and more... (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3425.msg50530#msg50530)" thread, which is where it was revealed that SpaZ_88 was the name I was looking for here.

I can't fully remember where it originated, but the "You should never go to IKEA (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3153.0)" thread was split off from another topic as soon as it became apparent just how strongly some people felt about it. But who was the golden boy (or girl) of IKEA that I was urging you to discover in this question? A quick glance here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3153.msg46851#msg46851) or here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3153.msg46857#msg46857) would have revealed that nobody loves IKEA more than... Decar!

Chooselife does not approve of this sentence.

Tell him to come back when he's got a special CD that he saves just for trips to IKEA... :P

He has an entire house that he saves just for IKEA.

Q12:
Sadly, a rather serious-looking computer error caused the loss of our latest Elo ratings update in October. But which forum member had to call technical support to get their laptop fixed?

Poor Jéré (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3129.msg53187#msg53187). :( :(n) Hopefully we'll get an update soon though O:-)

Winning response time was: 37s :o :o :o (<--- even more ridiculous)

Decar and Leven are tied on 19 points each but Piet_Agoras is just one point behind them, thodekey is two points behind him and MrNumbers and Willem are one point behind him! It's not too late for anyone to make a late charge and battle for the top spot though, so watch this space as I reveal the remaining answers and points awarded over the next couple of days!

Q13:
After much searching of sofas, an unlucky forum member discovered in February that they were missing a fairy! :( Fortunately however, another forum member with a spare fairy was on hand to offer a replacement and an agreement was made (presumably) via private message. So today's question is; which forum member was careless enough as to let their fairy escape?

First there was Brexit. Then there was Donald Trump. Then Willem (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3195.msg47286#msg47286) lost his fairy. What is the wrong with the world? :'(

My wall of shame is truly shameful, which is a shame. But at least I've played Monopoly Deal, unlike Halfling (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3309.msg49113#msg49113) ??? :-\ :-[ (shame on him)

Q15:
We were joined in November by a new member seeking advice on which expansion to ask for as a birthday present from their grandma. 24 of us voted between Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders and Princess & Dragon with I & C being the eventual winner (despite not being as much fun as T & B :P). Who was this forum member?

NEWS JUST IN: The forum member I was asking about for this question ended up getting all three of the expansions he asked us to choose between, which suggests he's definitely a true member of our little community here and will soon be squabbling about watermarks, artwork editions and whether the grass really is greener on the other tile ::).

I don't know for sure what Klaus-Jürgen Wrede would think of the idea of people asking him to sign their Carcassonne goodies purely so that they'll fetch a few more Euros when they're sold, but if I was him I wouldn't like it. And it would be a huge shame if this knowledge influenced whether he'd be so willing to sign tiles for his genuine fans in future. That's why I decided to give away my signed tiles when I saw this thread (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3399.msg50269#msg50269) and was delighted to see how quickly they were claimed! But who claimed the lake... congratulations txema25 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3399.msg50531#msg50531) :) :(y)

My reference to the classic hit "I would walk 500 miles" by (Scottish band) The Proclaimers should have made it obvious that the forum member in question here would also be Scottish. I didn't want it to be too easy though, so I didn't mention his advanced years. For anyone who struggled nonetheless, there was also the chance they might have spotted this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1205.msg48050#msg48050) on the 124th page of the "I love the postman" thread (great work Cundco! :(y)).

I can't say I've ever played it myself, nor have I played the vast majority of the games that were initially nominated. However, I do take some pride from the fact that I'm apparently the only person here to have played Dungeon Strike (not that this helped it's chances in the poll {although it was already at a significant disadvantage owing to the fact that I forgot to nominate it}). But who nominated The Game of 49? It was the genuinely lovely Rich_The_Fish (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3259.msg48675#msg48675) of course! :) :(y)

Welcome back! :) :(y)

Q19:
Back in May, a member of the community posted about their plans to play a game of Carcassonne including various editions of the basegame, 13 major expansions and 150 fan-made expansions (no cats were allowed). And after 31 days they were forced to stop as there was no space left to carry on! Who was this?

I don't know how fun a game with this many expansions would actually be (or whether there's sufficient space anywhere in my house to actually play one), but at least I know who to ask if I want to find out: Dragonlord (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3310.msg49128#msg49128)! Q20:
Perhaps understandably, cats were not allowed anywhere near the game of Carcassonne (Catcassonne ;)) I asked about yesterday. But in some parts of the world, certain forums members go to incredible lengths for their cats! One forum member in particular posted back in January about a certain cat tower that had been under construction for 4 years! Which forum member was responsible for this fantastic achievement for their beloved pets?

If there's one thing you can be sure of about the advent quiz each year, it's that a certain special lady will always be included as one of the answers. Unfortunately we haven't heard much from her this year, and she hadn't been taking part in the quiz either. But if anyone here was going to go out of their way to do something for their cats it would be kettlefish (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2521.msg46261#msg46261).

Oh no. This question ::)...

So, when I first posed it I was looking at this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2363.msg50656#msg50656) by Chooselife, although it's true that Decar then goes on to mention boardgame bits bowls from IKEA in the next couple of posts. So, I added a note to my question saying that I was referring to the first person if there was any ambiguity, which further muddied the waters as I then received a number of PMs from people suggesting it was jungleboy because of his post here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2363.msg42958#msg42958)! However, I didn't accept jungleboy as the answer as his bowls were from a KickStarter rather than IKEA, and also because his post was in 2016 (rather than this year). So all in all, it was a bit of a mess, but Chooselife was the name I was looking for :-[

For the next Advent Quiz I propose to make 5 points for first place, 4 - for 2nd, 3-3, 2-4 and 1 - for all others. That way chances to win from Decar and Leven could be higher, IMO ::)

If you think there was foul-play, it's important you say so, so evidence can be collected and  investigated.

On one occasion this year. I pulled the car over into a layby to answer a question promptly.  On the 21st I happened to be reading through my unread threads when Dan posted and i knew the answer without having to check.

I've always thought that one of the most positive things CarcC could bring to the world of gaming was it's inclusivity.  Dan's contests are a fantastic embodiment of these ideals. He looks to make sure the members here are the answers to the questions. So even the smallest contribution to the community can be included and remembered.

If it's so important to you, that you need to consider other ways of scoring, just so I can't win even before the final results are out, I'd rather not have taken part at all.

I am sorry, if I made you think that I doubt your [or anyone's else] fair play: I am sure everything is right on that side. I am just surprised on your outstanding performance, which could mean that your dedication to Carcassonne, Forum, Christmas, Dan (underline whatever applicable :D) could be the reason to be envy ;D

I think with this many people taking part (some of whom were taking it more seriously than others) very quick response times are to be expected. And sometimes someone will simply happen to be in the right place at the right time!

But anyway, since it was a very quick response (and yet, not actually the fastest!) I've posted the below screenshots just to set everyone's minds at rest.

Question posted:

Question answered (PM):

However, considering the number of participants I do agree that the scoring system should be modified at least to 1st = 4, 2nd = 3, 3rd = 2, 4th and all others = 1. I also have something else in mind to liven up the scoring a little but I'll share that with you in time for the next advent quiz!

Time for the last few questions. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...

Who was this?

After the question21gate scandal of yesterday I decided to ask a much easier question today and even left some giveaway search terms in the question to make it easy for everyone. But was it easy enough? Yes (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2521.msg48381#msg48381). The answer was stalcupojoy!

Winning response time was: 1m47s

Scores update after Q22:

I couldn't have let this classic Monty Python clip slip through the advent quiz unnoticed. Many thanks to thodekey (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3288.msg48847#msg48847) for bringing it up! But on a slightly more serious note, be careful of those raspberries folks, it's a jungle out there...

Winning response time was: 2m35s

Q24:
I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's different Christmas traditions and festive shenanigans this year, and was especially impressed by some of the Carcassonne-themed tree decorations! With this in mind, who likes to invade German Cathedrals with their little metal meeples?

I told you where to look. I told you what to look for. And by Jove, (almost all of) you found it! The answer to this one was: franks (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3705.msg54960#msg54960).

As John Lennon almost sang: "So, that was Christmas. And how have you done?" Have a look below to find out...

Winning response time was: 1m12s

Scores update after Q24:

Decar:   +1(40)

Congratulations to Decar on his impressive final score and some even more impressive (and legitimate) response times. Congrats also to Willem for following so hotly on his heels and to Leven and Piet_Agoras for sharing the third place on the podium. But overall, congratulations to everyone who took part as that really is what this quiz was all about! :)

- 441 answers were provided via something like 420 PMs over 24 days!
- 18 people successfully answered all questions (8 of whom provided 100% correct responses :(y))
- 18 prizes will be provided (stay tuned for news of this)

I hope you all had as much fun answering the questions as I did asking them; it's been a joy and a privilege serving as your quiz host for this short time! C:-) And now that 2018 is almost upon us, I'm hoping that you guys will make my life as easy as possible by filling Carcassonne Central with cool, interesting and fun things over the coming year for me to ask questions about in the 2018 advent quiz! CarcC is what we make it, so make it something we can all be proud of and enjoy together...

Wishing a happy, healthy and successful 2018 to you all, and your families and loved ones! :blue-meeple:

A great finish Willem!  I'm lucky there are only 24 days to suffer sleep deprivation (among other things) through.

Thanks again for hosting the highlight of 2017 Dan!

I'm sure I've said this privately, but maybe not publicly - thanks very much for organising this Dan. I enjoyed participating each day and recapping various events from the year. I was just wondering if there was any news on the prizes Dan (particularly with seeing you soon)?
