So, the first League, which I was the responsible of, is over (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3221.msg48786#msg48786) for a while ago. We have voted (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3284.0) for the next League, but unexpected comeback of Farin, the author of JCZ, slightly changed our plans and gave us hope that we will have the full implementation of the big expansion #6 soon in JCZ. This was the main reason why I want to postpone expansion #6 and play Carcassonne Minis League instead. Hello and welcome, ladies and gentlemen! :D
We will play with all available expansions from Carcassonne Minis series, including Flier, Goldmines, Mage and Witch and Crop Circles II. This is 30 additional tiles (8+8+8+6), which makes all matches must be played with total of 102 tiles including classic start tile. This is the same amount of tiles, which we played in P&D expansion. Let's hope the outcome of this competition will be the same (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2595.msg39379#msg39379) :P
Maximum amount of players is not defined, let's see how many players we will get, and then I will decide, how many groups we will have. The registration gates will be opened for about 2 weeks.
Please confirm that you have read our Code of Conduct (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2700) before signing up to take part, to ensure that you have a proper idea of what is expected of you individually in order for this competition to be successful and enjoyable for everyone. Tournament rules will be similar to previous Expansion League so most of you are familiar with them, but still I will publish the rules together with groups' breakdowns later.
Good luck! :(y)

Count me in as well. Last league was a nice introduction for me with nice people.

Count me in! At least for now... Not sure about the summer plans :-[

I voted for the Minis, so I am in. Lets go for another league.
-
I am out, working on next release instead ;-)

Just played 2 training games against Khalidqasrawi and earlier this week against TheSteveAllen and i must say: those 4 mini's are a nice surprise and the base for some heavy battles...this League will rock!

COME ON !!!!
:D

Khalid (:red-meeple:) and I (:blue-meeple:) just played our first match of this "Mixed Mini" league. He had the lead from start to finish owing to a nice 20-point city that he was gifted at the start of the game, but overall the fact that I drew all of the Goldmines tiles (something that Khalid didn't take well! >:() gave me an advantage in scoring well with the gold bars. Still, being relatively new to Goldmines I had no idea that a difference of 6 gold bars between us would be worth 32 points in my favour...
The majority of the Fliers tiles didn't make a huge difference although a couple of them were well used to share or steal mostly roads (especially ones with gold on them). I think we were pretty even on these, but I had very little control over the Mage & Witch tiles as Khalid drew all but 1 of these and generated some good points with the Mage (as well as routinely dropping the Witch onto features of mine).
We fought a little over the farm to the East which I was the first to claim. The battle escalated quickly though and within the space of about a dozen tiles it was 2 - 2 and then 3 - 2 in my favour when Khalid made a mistake with his road. I then drew the final CC tile (with pitchfork) and so forced us both to lose a farmer. This gave us both a meeple back but meant I retained control of the farm. If Khalid had drawn this tile he could have opted to add another farmer to it, which I wouldn't have been able to do as I had no more meeples in my supply and the farm would have settled at 3 each.
I was a little surprised by the final scores, mostly because of the difference all the gold made. Ultimately though, the points difference doesn't represent how close this game really was, as in actual fact I should have won by at least 100 points and Khalid was lucky to score anything at all against my superior skill and intellect. 8)
Thanks for the game Khalid, and good luck in the rest of the competition! :) :(y)
-
I must recognise skill, intellect and good humour when it presents itself. But sometimes you have to share a little more Dan. Keeping all the gold for yourself when others work hard and get none is nearly as bad for the game as tile counting.
-
Touche!
Let's not let our mutual desire to have all the gold spoil a beautiful friendship... :-*

:blue-meeple: danwasthirty 5 : 384 khalidqasrawi :red-meeple:
I had my match against danwasthirty this evening. It went rather better than my previous match so it seems I'm back to my lucky tile drawing self. Poor danwasthirty didn't collect any of the gold or any other proper tiles at all. I did start with a rather huge city, created lots of smaller cities to populate my farm then sat on pretty much all of the gold. The mage was often on my cities too so that helped. I left a bar on the table for danwasthirty but I think, sadly, it was out of reach for him. In the end, he made a hopeful attempt to get on my farm and I gave him a few points on that city - I mean, you can't have it all can you. I'm all for social justice.
Well played danwasthirty. I think your luck will turn soon.

I think I have to pass this time. If it would start after July, 15, I would gladly participate. But I will be at a film festival, my sister visits me from Alaska, since my nice is also marring. To much to do right now for taking part here, sorry.

I'm in of course! Looks like is will be fun!

In!

Registration is over, we have perfect number of players to form 3 groups of 6.
Expect groups distribution soon!
-
Thanks MrNumbers! Really looking forward to the start!
-
Allright :)
We can also form groups of 6 in the second phase, which would give everybody 10 games. That's a nice amount ;)

IMHO, 3 groups of 6 now works better. It means skill plays a big role. Too few games in the first phase implies the final ranking will be too much affected by the magic word "luck".

You can have 3 groups of 6 now, lets say A,B,C and than in the second phase, you could have also three groups:
Gold = A1,A2,B1,B2,C1,C2
Silver = A3,A4,B3,B4,C3,C4
Bronze = A5,A6,B5,B6,C5,C6

That might be a good idea. Let's see if MrNumbers decides to adopt it.

Interesting idea. I also often was frustrated by the fact that one loss could not let you take the first place overall. Maybe I will bring it for voting.

Competition is live!
As it was before, groups are distributed according to current Elo rating (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3129.msg50245#msg50245). There is only one new player this time.
Group names aren't boring A, B & C, but based on included expansions: Fliers, Goldminers and Wizards.
Fliers (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3403): MrNumbers, Leven, danisthirty, thodekey, Chooselife, Rosco.
Goldminers (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3404): Merlin_89, khalidqasrawi, JoeSesquipedalian, Piet_Agoras, DeatzoSeol, ny1050220.
Wizards (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3405): Jéré, jma03, What If?, Adrornalin, TheSteveAllen, Singing Dwarf.
Let's roll! 8)

Only 2 games played in the first 2 weeks... this must be the slowest start in the history of Carc Central... (!)
Sending private messages to your opponents with your availability and a proposal of date/time for your game works best!

Sorry, for the hold up! I've just played my first match against Chooselife...
I think the fact that we're playing with a mixture of expansions that many people don't have a lot of experience with means that some people probably feel a bit daunted about launching into it in the same way as they might for a league based on any of the major expansions that we all know and love so well. Plus, it can be a bit tricky getting any decent practice in with these expansions as even Adda won't play them! I think things should speed up a bit once everyone knows what they're doing a bit...

...and don't underestimate summer factor! During summer time traditionally less games are played.
But nevertheless - keep playing! 8)
-
I think that the fact that we have started during the holiday period has also had an effect. I, for one, have been unable to play largely due to having visitors staying with me and having commitments with them. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next week.

I'm in the chatroom now, in case anyone would like to practice the minis.

I thought this could be useful for every player in the League, in case you are not reading game reports in other groups than yours.
Then the turning point: again, the crop circle problem. Chooselife made the same mistake that previously thodekey did: he thought that he had to remove a farmer while I chose the other option. So he unintentionally deployed another farmer.
Please, every player in this league, be careful! If you don't see this image in the area of available actions then you can't remove a follower:

Just FYI, over the past weeks there was an issue with the online server and it is now resolved. Thanks to Farin. :(y)
Some of you might have noticed that there was an accumulation of inactive games and it became impossible to scroll down the list to find any newly created games. The workaround was to create a game, quit and re-join the same game, so that it would appear near the top of the list.
-
Thanks for the useful information, Jéré! :(y)
-
Important information!
Since current Minis League participant Singing Dwarf continuously doesn't answer to any PMs and e-mails, I have nothing left but to disqualify him and announce a replacement. Who are willing to take his place? He haven't played any games, so your "history" will be clear :)
-
I would suggest Decar if he is willing. :(y)
-
I seem to remember someone asking to take part after the competition had started but can't find any record of it now. I thought I'd added their name to the waiting list but evidently it wasn't for this league if that was the case as there's nobody there who joined the list recently.
Welcome to the league! (whoever it is :) )

You probably mean this post (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3403.msg50736#msg50736) :) I've already sent him PM yesterday late evening, but he doesn't seem to visit forum so frequently.

How are you getting on ARabidMeerkat? If you need any help with JCZ then there are lots of people on hand here to help out!
If it helps you to prepare, there's something you should know: "You're a wizard, ARabidMeerkat..." (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3405.msg50333#msg50333)

Dear Tournament Organiser,
I think we need a deadline for the current group stage. This might help some holidaymakers with the planning of their remaining games. Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Jéré

Agreed. I was going to write something about it just yesterday :)
I think two weeks from here as deadline sounds fair (19.09).
To make it easier, I will write down all outstanding matches.
Fliers:
Goldminers:
JoeSesquipedalian vs. Merlin_89
JoeSesquipedalian vs. Piet_Agoras
JoeSesquipedalian vs. DeatzoSeol
JoeSesquipedalian vs. ny1050220
DeatzoSeol vs. Piet_Agoras
DeatzoSeol vs. ny1050220
Wizards:
jma03 vs. What If?
jma03 vs. ARabidMeerkat
jma03 vs. Adrornalin ???
ARabidMeerkat vs. What If?
I will think what to do with matches, which won't be played till this deadline.
