Thanks jungleboy and Chuck for the game. I like Abbey & Mayor a lot more now than I did after our A & M league!

Random comment: barns are really powerful.
My housemate used to enjoy playing Carcassonne with me, 'cause he always can place his barn ahead of me.
After I played a few leagues, he claimed that I got able to place the barn just before he wanted, and refused to play mega-Carc with me any more ???

No problem. It was a good game, and the gap between JB and myself was once again very small.
That's because of the besiegers-tiles, you, DAN, put to my cities... ;)

Sure are! In this game my barn was worth 64 points and the only reason I was able to get these points was because I was the first person to draw a tile that fit the gap where a barn could be placed. That was just luck. If either jungleboy or Chuck had drawn a suitable tile before me I have no doubt that the outcome of the game would have been very different. In spite of my good fortune however, jungleboy made a valiant effort to drop his barn elsewhere and merge it on to my barn farm. To his credit, he was just one tile away from achieving this but Chuck ruined his plans with a frrr. Fortunately he could take some comfort from the fact that the road he built in the process was a thing of beauty... 8)

Your cities eh? I distinctly remember being the first to claim what ended up being "your" city but then abandoning it through a Corn Circle tile in a (failed) attempt to steal a small city from JB (right before he drew the ccff splitter). :@ Then I claimed it again later on, but you attacked it so aggressively that I deserted it again, this time by allowing my knight to escape through an adjacent cloister. If anything, we were lucky that JB didn't draw one of the remaining Besiegers tiles and drop it on our city in the north-east that never got finished. It was almost guaranteed that this is what he was going to do in my mind, but fortunately he never drew either of them.

Anyway, I certainly enjoyed myself. Don't be too hard on yourselves either; if you added your scores together you would have beaten me by 12 points so it wasn't that bad... :green-meeple: :black1-meeple: :D :(y) ... :blue-meeple: :'(

After you abandoned the unfinished cities, those were mine! ;)
And I was lucky to connect my mayor to the rest of the big city!

It was, as I said, a good game and a very good training for the upcoming World Cup. I had fun, and I hope to do some games like that more often, as I'm having more time than lately.

Anyone?

Since nobody responded to this and there was nobody in the chat room I ventured onto the online server and looked for someone to play in the lobby there. I eventually got a game against someone called Arek.

It was obvious from our first game that he knew what he was doing and I got a well-deserved loss after he trapped two monks and a knight in the same corner. I didn't get a screenshot of the final scores but I think it was something like 84 - 95 against me.

So, we decided to have a rematch and I knew what I was in for this time (not that this helped)...

I thought I'd won this when I got my third and then fourth farmers onto the main farm but Arek didn't seem too concerned by this and managed to hang onto his lead by a single point once our final scores had been calculated, even though I'd trapped 2 of his meeples for most of the game.

Anyway, as we were chatting during the game he turned out to be the Polish national champion who had finished fifth at the world championships (one place ahead of MrNumbers)! He won 5 out of 6 games but didn't make it to the top table because of score difference which meant he couldn't play for a place in the final. :(

Obviously I mentioned Carcassonne Central so hopefully he will be joining us soon and might even take part in one of our future competitions. Please take this post as a friendly warning to everyone else just in case he does! 8) :(y)
