Title: Haflings II: The Crop Circle
Post by: Darwin on October 22, 2014, 07:06:12 PM
Have anybody noticed that the Crop Circle on Haflings II is just a Circle? Not a Pitchfork, Club or Shield! ???

How do we play this new Crop Circle? Is it the intention that we shall choose which type of segment it shall affect?

I have no official info but I think  we can choose. They made it this way so there is not more of one type than the others.

I read the English translation at boardgamegeek.com and it only says to read the Crop Circles rules for this, which didn't help much in my case.  :-\

Aargh.. My football ("soccer") playing meeples will NOT like that. Uneven teams.. I'm not even sure that's legal! :D

Actually it represents the hole where all our money is going - buying all those carcassonne expansions

Which brings up another explanation, without the money part.

Google this: mysterious holes around the world

I must do my duty as a moderator, Aenima you can use the edit button instead of making many consecutive posts. Very interesting tile, you should find the rules for it.

 :(

well... the rule:
when a player place a tile with the mysterious hole, every follower (but also every peaces of wood) connected to the street or the field of the tile are removed from the game... in reality they are lost forever... to recall them please contact cundco service.   :o

A bit ontopic again. Are there no rules delivered with them?

The official HiG / Spielbox rules for Halflings says, if I interpreted it correctly, to look up the original Crop Circles rules when using the triangles with the Crop Circles effects.
Which in term, looking up the original Crop Circles rules from both CAR and my very own English and Scandinavian releases, all has no mention of this shape.

I think it's supposed to be a club but they forgot to finish the drawing.  ^-^

Or, you may choose what you want it to be; what benefits you the most...  :)

Actually, the English version has nothing on the crop circle - the most it has is "Special symbols are to be used with those expansions.". (Paraphrasing, since I didn't bring the magazine with me to the office.) But then it does have a paragraph about the 'Hill'.

And yes, mine arrived yesterday! Will be playing with them tonight. :)

Its very unlikely they forgot anything. All indicates that the circle shape is supposed to be an option to choose :black-meeple:

This is what it says in Spielbox magazine on page 55:
Quote
Some tiles of the cundco version show symbols from the "Schafe und Hugel" (Hills & Sheep) and "Die Kornkreise" (Corn Circles) expansions. Ignore these symbols if you aren't playing with these expansions.

There is nothing further about the corn circle tile, so it looks like kettlefish will need to ask Georg Wild.

For the hill triangle tiles, you must draw a full tile to go underneath. Another triangle can be placed afterwards, and the hill counts for both triangles.

Also, triangle tiles can be used to complete cloisters (and similar features which use the same mechanic).

So we have the club for roads
We have the shield for cities
We have the fork for fields

What if this circle is for religion? cloisters monks abbots?
its the only feature not yet in the circles

“As usual the rules are unclear, but I don't think it has ever been released an expansion with rules so badly thought trough as with the Haflings." >:(

I'm going to qualify that, actually. The Plague is the worst-written expansion EVER. Seriously, they didn't consider any expansions with it, which makes for all sorts of rules confusions. But after that, Halflings II wins the race.

Also, read "trough" as "through". That's what I get for turning off auto-correct.

Sorry, English is not my native language. :-\

I love the tiles (but they could have been cut better, as you pointed out in your excellent review). But it's a shame that they forgot the rules, as the haflings are one of the most exiting expansions in a long time (I have acquired tree of both).

They just didnt play with them... didnt think about them and never asked feedback with it.. they made very bad rules for.them and they could have make a very good expansion. But they choose the easy way.

I've sent to HiG this question about the Crop Circle on the triangle tile.

We don't know how to play this Crop Circle, because it is no:

‘Pitchfork’ crop circle
This affects farmers (on a farm segment).

‘Club’ crop circle
This affects thieves (on a road segment).

‘Shield’ crop circle
This affects knights (on a city segment).

Perhaps this crop circle is a sort of "Joker"...

the picture shows my original German questions

The crop circle on the triangle tile is a Joker.
That mean the player who places this tile can decide if he use the rules for the shield, for the fork or for the club.

I've got this clarification from Moritz Brunnhofer - HiG- on Friday 28 11 2014 by call.

EDIT: nevermind, this was posted in two different threads so I got confused. :)
