Title: The Plague and the river.
Post by: Windekind on November 18, 2018, 11:07:35 AM
I know that the plague is only played with the basic game, but how would you play the plague with the river?
Does the plague go over the river, or would the river work like a kind of wall, so that the plague can't cross over it?

As the fleas are not on a feature, but on the (entire) tile, I would say the river doesn't affect them, as when they are on a river tile, they're on both sides of the river already  :D

Well theoritacally I would say yes/no.

First you need to look at how it spread. The Plague was spreading because of rats as it is a vlo that takes blood of the rats when they die the vlo is searching for other blood. That from humans.

So in first the Plague will spread by rats, well rats don't really swim but they can. So yes it could go over a river...

Well when the Plague spread over humans the only way humans go over water is with a boat or a bridge.

So you can say I skip the part of the boat and swimming rats(haven't done research on this)... Then you could say the water will block them.

So it depends how far and deep you will look into it. I would like the idea of having it not be able to pass the water and only go around or over a bridge :)

I find the reasoning interesting that the river blocks the plague. And that a bridge across the river can spread the plague on the other side of the river.
There are 2 possibilities, the bridge on the river itself or a bridge of the expansion Bridges, Castles & Bazaars.

Then the second question: When the plague approaches the river, how a flea token is placed on a river tile?
The flea tokens only placed on one side of the river, and then you decide that on the other side there is no plague (because there is no bridge placed). And if there is a plague on both sides (because a bridge is placed) of the river, than there are 2 flea tokens on a river tile, each on one side.

The flea token infects the whole tile. Any meeple on the tile is immediately returned to the owning player. There will not be 2 fleas on a single tile on matter what tile, be it square, rectangular or triangular.

These are the rules of the expansion. Everyone can always make house-rules, that makes a difference for combining with the river, but als Halfling and i stated, the flea token is on the entire tile, not one part of it.

This isn't exactly related to this topic but does anyone know if they plan on releasing The Plague for the new edition?

Unlikely, as the rights for the expansion are not with HiG, but with Spielbox.
As Spielbox has now released an expansion in the new art, there's a slight chance, but I wouldn't bet on it

Spielbox is not going to reprint what it has already released. In any case, it will publish new mini-expansions. The minis of spielbox is something exclusive and unrepeatable.

But if it's in the new art it isn't a repeat of what they have already done.

I happily play plague mixed with new art tiles....  It is too good an expansion to be ignored just because of design change.
