Today we played phantoms, halflings and Solazian walls.

It was a closely fought game which I won narrowly.

I really really like city walls! My one question: why is a one-tile city worth 4? I would think it would be worth two.

Yes I object to that too. In fact I object to the presence of a freebie tile altogether. In fact I think this fan expansion has too many tiles. We're intending to  just take two rows (8 tiles) and just use those.

Just sorry to see  "Bridge over Troubled Waters" and "Stary Stary (K)Night" didn't make the cut :p

Don't forget:

Much as I agree with the sentiments, those are some meeples that really need to be eaten by the dragon - for the sake of music you understand. Or maybe they could just be grated and served up as Welsh rarebit.

Today we played phantoms, gold mines and fortune teller.

The six year-old, Red, started off by pouring everything into farmers. So immediately I thought I'd look elsewhere for points. For most of the game I, Blue,  had a fortune teller but I hardly ever seemed to find what I was looking for. Red twice managed to lock up my gold and monks, however by concentrating my gold and meeples and with two fortune tellers I managed to rescue all but one gold bar. Meanwhile Black had neutralised the big city and taken over the big farm. When we counted up the points Black had beaten me by 6 points.

Then we remembered about the gold. When we counted that up I had beaten Black by 10 points. Of course! Collecting gold had been my strategy all along.

I emailed HiG. However I got the following automated response:

E-Mails an diese Adresse werden wegen Urlaub bis einschließlich zum 27. Mai nicht gelesen.

So holiday until the 27th which, I suppose leaves it to Ebay.

Bit more time over lunch time to highlight some of the tiles which stand out and look odd to me.  Now certainly it could be combination of poor camera work, unlucky lighting and possibly some aliasing/compression artefacts when uploading the photos.  But I don't think this seller should be given much benefit-of-the-doubt given his previous selling history.

My picture is 10MB - so here is a link: DodgyTiles.png.

I collected some links last year in December, and informed HiG, which seem to have disappeared now, but they were all counterfeit or marked as fan-expansions or inoffizielle:

I am somewhat more convinced now. I assume you will report it seeing how much work you've put into this.

And with regard to marking the files as 'inoffizielle' that doesn't make it ok.  Here is a link to an offical HiG Statement Kettlefish/MJHarper translated for us many months ago:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=87.0

Edit: sorry should have added:  Some of the circles, to me: show printer head-lines

I never said the  'inoffizielle' made it okay - just not fake. There is a difference between illegal for copyright reasons (still theft of course) and downright fraudulent. And the photos looked genuine to me on the original link, worn maybe but okay. I'm actually totally shocked that anybody thinks they can make money by counterfeiting Carcassonne tiles. I mean you can still buy old arts base set from cundco.

Well partly, it's knowledge the tiles are not official HiG tiles - it's also illegal to profit from any fan-made tiles as the artwork belongs to HiG.

Secondly, it's looking at the pictures.  It's pretty clear they're printed on a laser printer and stuck on with a glue-stick...Check the corners out:

I agree with everything you say here. What you have not established is that the tiles in your original post are fake.

So I am really puzzled what Hoard O'bits' business model is. Are they buying in bulk and splitting up the boxes and selling separately. If so why don't they have boxes to sell?

Do images on deviantart count as "in the wild"?

I had a game yesterday with 42 points for a monastery.

You did  not say if you won the game.

No my girl won by winning a 156 points farm.. Long live the bridges..

Long live the bridges indeed! Bridges are a tool in the conspiracy that is Big Farming.

Just had a chance to play a 4 player game with these.

Uhh... they are not really balanced at all for slightly large decks. The River + Traders and Builders + Inns and Cathedrals + The Maze + the original monasteries because why not? + a second pack of 8 city tiles I bought and this thing is just broken. If you never draw one, you simply cannot win when people are getting 25+ points per Japanese Temple on huge, congested boards on long streaks of tiles, due to the River.

There's is absolutely no reason to take this as an Monastery. I can't think of any situation where you'd want to give up 25+ points for a potential 9 points, unless you were down to just your Phantom or something and didn't want to bog it down all game.

So everything you say applies to the German monasteries or Belgian monasteries or presumably Elbonian High Places.

First;ly it is harder with 4 players. With 2 you are likely to at least get say 2 of them. Also the more they invest into long term stuff the more you can invest into farms and cities. Also it may be possible to block the growth of monasteries influence - especially effective if they are on the same line. I'm not convinced it's unbalanced.

Also there is the choice of expansions. You had the labyrinth, right? That definitely sucks meeples out of the game. When the labyrinth comes up again it might be possible to trap the opponents meeples in the labyrinth rather compete. Sure you still losie out on points. But committing a meeple for the whole game is its own cost.

Also there are other expansions that balance things out a little. Towers allow you to capture an abbot. Very nice if done to a long-time abbot. Fliers enable you to get in on the act after the fact.

Also the original rules say the special monasteries should displace the normal ones but we have never played that.

Edit: It should have been "The Most Sacred Shrines of Elbonia that look exactly like Mens' Restrooms Expansion Including Statue to the Monkey God Oobanoobah". For reference see http://dilbert.com/strip/2012-06-18 and http://dilbert.com/strip/2010-10-17
