Official Rules / Re: The plague, inactive plague region
« on: February 18, 2017, 05:39:12 AM »
It says you can move the flea any time during your turn, so can't you pull the magic portal tile and move the specific inactive flea for the tile you want to teleport to?

Yeah I reckon that's fine and part of the interest of the Plague.

conclusion could be: It is possible but then only via a magic portal because this is not considered as running away from the plague.
I have no opinion about the flying machines because I don't have this expansion.

I really don't see how the rules can be interpreted this way. I don't think you can place a meeple on a plague tile - even an inactive on - by any method. The difference between active and inactive is that the latter cannot grow - at least until it is reactivated.

Yes. A tile with an inactive Plague flea chit is the same as any other tile, although there is a higher chance that the Plague may be reactivated there.

That's not how I interpret the rules:
Quote
The follower may not take flight to or over a tile with a flea token (either active or latent),
nor to a tile with an active Outbreak.

Looking forward to catching up with you both on the day... :) :(y)

That raises a question. Why don't we try to organise some sort of meetup on the Friday or Saturday organised through this forum? Some corner of the convention where we can play games. Or has someone already done that and I've been away?

Yes, MSO is the Mind Sports Olympiad.
Thanks. So a little game I won, thanks to Google.  :yellow-meeple:

Thanks for the link asparagus. Not sure what MSO stands for here.

My best guess is "Mind Sports Olympiad" but that is a guess. Probly wrong.

Have you bought your ticket yet? Will your daughter (Julia?) be playing too? Looking forward to catching up with you both on the day... :) :(y)

Yes, just bought the tickets.

Strangely the organiser of the UK 2017 Carcassonne championship is listed as "MSO". So I don't know what's going on.

The UK games expo runs art workshops. But I can see that trying to do a Carcassonne tile workshop (especially one using printers) would head off into copyright issues. It would look like we were facilitating the illegal trade rather than thwart it.

The video idea is clearly much safer (and cheaper).

Will you bring your computer and the printer to the meeting in a boardgame café?

Someone would need to.

I'm not sure I see the purpose of such a crafting session, but I think that's because I don't quite understand what you were thinking; could you elaborate?

The idea presupposes that
(1) the best way of learning how to handcraft tiles is to do it with other people.
(2) there is enough interest that it is worthwhile having a practical session.

I think (1) is clearly true, though I have no idea how strongly true it is. I have no idea whether (2) is true, but the only way of finding out is to discuss it.

Or let somebody else print them for you. Without him making a profit on it. So you are only allowed to pay for shipping and material costs, not for the effort he took in it.

I never get to any meetups. But have you considered adding a crafting session to such meetups? Perhaps at the uk games expo.

Unofficial Rules / Re: Crop Circles - House Rules
« on: December 04, 2016, 01:45:52 PM »
I haven't thought of that. I have a feeling it would be workable but not better, and perhaps slightly worse. The advantage of crop circles is that whatever choice you make is forced on everyone. I think that makes it interesting. At least your idea maintains that. With the standard rules the advantage of the remove action is that you get a meeple back but lose the points you were holding. Your proposed house rule would simplify the tactical choice by removing the loss of points. May be no other player would have a qualifying meeple and then it is much simpler. So my criticism is that I think it would make it tactically  slightly  less interesting.

EDIT: As an afterthought, have you looked at the festival expansion. Making that more interesting through houserules could be popular.

In our games players should draw tiles right after their turn. So they have time to think over the placement and so on until they have their turn and it speeds up their game. But with some players an active-player- totem would help them to prevent placing their tile too early.

That does not play so well with mechanisms that allow extra turns such as builders and messengers. I guess though consistency is all that really matters. If you earn an extra tile on the last tile and there are no more tiles, then you don't get your earnings. This would just bring it forward,

Good work.

I have seen this idea in lot's of games. I can't remember which one now, but in some game we would just forget to the pass the token. Then it's not so great. I think the token was not that important in that game and so we would forget.

In evolution it's very important and the game comes with a big dinosaur for the purpose.

It also reminds me of backgammon. In a proper set there is not a token as such - each player has their own pair of dice. The rule is as long as you have not picked up your dice you can change your mind. I think that suits that game a lot.

In Carcassonne I guess we use the tile bag for this purpose but not as strictly as one would in backgammon.

In our Czech board we have a wiki page under construction. Will be available really soon

Could it be maintained as a multi-language wiki?
