Title: another new Mini-Expansion "Carcassonne - Darmstadt"
Post by: Benny on October 04, 2014, 02:23:18 PM
A few minutes ago I found the following thread in the german Spielbox-Forum (sorry it's only in german available):
Exklusiv bei der Spielerei: Minierweiterungen aus Darmstadt spielt (http://www.spielbox.de/phorum4/read.php4?f=1&i=293927&t=293927&v=f&)
Obviously there will be a new mini-expansion for Carcassonne with a close relation to the german city Darmstadt.
According to one post and the article below this mini-expansion will be available at the fair SPIEL and during an game-event in the city Darmstadt.

A picture with some cards (but also for the other mentioned expansions!) you can found here:
Exklusiv: Minierweiterungen zu 5 Spielen (http://www.darmstadt-spielt.de/)
you must scroll down a bit; to the short article ""Exklusiv: Minierweiterungen zu 5 Spielen"

At the moment I don't know more.
No idea how many cards, ... and so on???

When a lot of cities will make there own mini-expansion (like the monasteries for Germany and new for the Dutch/Belgium) we collectors will have a hard time the next years  :o   ;)

Intriguing.  I wonder what the rules would be.  Looks to be only 1 tile so maybe it'll have similar rules to La Porxada? I'd certainly be interested in getting it if anyone finds out where from!

Yes, the most important question here is: How do those of us not fortunate enough to be in Germany during Essen obtain this set of mini-expansions? ( I'd be interested in getting the whole set, for all 5 of the games including Carcassonne!)

Yes, I am a Zooloretto collector as well and would love to get my hands on that new expansion for it. I had already heard about it from Michael Schacht. I'm slightly disappointed that it's just another bonus enclosure, but I still want it. I'm also intrigued with the Catan expansion, though I don't have that game with me right now nor play it much. The last other two expansions don't interest me a ton, but I'd take them all the same. I'm sure somebody here has those two games.

That all being said, I don't know if the new Carcassonne expansion is technically official, though at least it's being printed. It has the approval of Hans im Glück, like La Porxada, but none of Carcassonne's crew are listed on the credits, unless Wolfgang Kramer is a HiG employee. Either way, I'll take it!

If the art of the tile is that contemporary building I'd see this more as a promotional collectible item than an actually playable thing, moreso being only 1 tile. The art doesn't fit much into Carcassone.

Agreed. I'm thinking one tile too. It falls into the category of La Porxada and The School in being non-thematic to the base game.

One other thing to add to the collection, the monkey on my shoulder whispering in my ear, "Find a way to get it as soon as possible"

I haven't seen much of Carc II but the Darmstadt appears to be a cccc tile in the old art. Although the feature of the city is not old art.

Wolfang Kramer is a famous game author (e.g. El Grande, Tikal, Torres, Asara). And as far as I know he is not an HiG employee, but he published at least one game at HiG (e.g. El Grande).

Yes, it sounds like HiG gave the permission for this expansion. But I don't know more. Perhaps kettlefish could ask HiG about it and perhaps if it will be available at CundCo, too  ;)
It will be difficult to get these expansions for many persons in SPIEL and the game event in Darmstadt. In the german forum CarcF somebody asked the organizing staff of the game event: it will cost 4 EUR and is one complete sheet with all the tiles of the five games.
Perhaps we will get to know some more details during the next days.

News from BoardGameGeek suggests this expansion comes with three tiles total. The one in the image is the stadium in which the Darmstadt spielfest is held. The other two are more historic structures in the city.

Tibetan Foxes just rule ! Look at it! It looks like a cross between a squirrel, a wolf and chow yun fat after smoking an unhealthy dose of weed. It's "Nemisis" is some sort of furry gopher with insecurity issues! That video is just to corny.

But i agree to get back on topic.

I think there are 3 important questions:
What do the tiles do?
Will we only be able to get them trough the event like the porxada or can we buy them eventually at cundco?
Will the set include a tibetan fox meeple?

If there is sufficient interest and these are going to be difficult/ impossible to get hold of after the Essen fair, is it worth somebody who is lucky enough to be going there buying a whole load of these for sale at cost price within the community here? Kind of like how SRBO has helped out so many of us with the Dutch/ Belgian monasteries.

I for one would be interested in doing this (buying from someone rather than selling as I’m not going to be at Essen), and would even be willing to pay a few Euros extra to whoever was willing to get hold of these...

If I were at Essen, I would totally do a mass purchase and sell/distribute to the community. Alas, I am in the US, so I would have to be on the "I'll take one" list.

Sign me up if anyone is able to obtain copies! I've got people around here who would likely use the other expansion elements not related to Carcassonne. I'd keep the Catan expansion for my collection in the US.

Is the Darmstadt expansion with the new art?

Honestly, from the look at it, there's not enough things ON it to matter..! Just one building!
Title: Re: another new Mini-Expansion "Carcassonne - Darmstadt"
Post by: Whaleyland on October 10, 2014, 02:56:34 PM
There are three buildings included in the expansion, two medieval and one modern. The modern building appeared on the teaser image released by the convention people. The other two tiles have not been released yet, nor have the rules. And the tiles use the old art.

That you even have to ask this question is purely bollocks! Every expansion should be made available to buy at their shop. Always!

Of course, I too would like to get this expansion, but this bloody stupid exclusive crap has to stop!

I think this is going to be seriously hard to get hold of and as such there's going to be a lot of demand for it if he's even able to get hold of any at all. I would suggest that one copy per person seems like a reasonable limit in light of this but obviously it is up to Khonnor...

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact them in advance to pre-order so they can put your order aside. By experience (3 times in Essen), some promos are "sold out" before the weekend.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Hi, back again.

I don't mind picking up copies at all, but will need to know an exact number. If people could PM me through my profile that would be helpful.

When I arrive on Friday, it will be the first booth I visit. I hope I can take as much copies as needed, but if not, I have some friends with me who could also take some copies. Plus, we're also visiting Saturday and Sunday....
I, for some reason, there is limit, it will be a first-come-first-serve kinda thing. Hope everyone respects that.  :)

Wow...lots of responses! Nice.

I am going to Spiel with 2 friends, so I'll try to get as many copies as possible every day I'm there (Friday-Sunday).
I don't know the price of the promo yet, as it also included promos to other game, so it might be more than 5 euro.
If you make a payment through PayPal, or send me a PM, please include your username, what it's for and your address.

This is the list I have so far (in order they responded):

1. Vasek x1 (Canada)
2. Rosco x1 (UK)
3. Yellow x4
4. Andrew x2 (New Zealand)
5. Geoff x1 (UK)
6. icydarkstary x1
7. Jere x1
8. Danisthirty x1
9. SRBO x 1 (Netherlands)
10. Quevy x1 or x2 ?
11. gmartinscott x1
12. Darwin x1 (Norway)
13. JT Atomico x1
14. Coyote x1 (USA)
15. tp10053 x1 (Slovakia)

I really hope I don't have to disappoint anyone after Spiel.

The bow of mini expansions could be in a size around DinA4 (around 21x30cm) - the weight for each bow is around 100 gramm.

The envelope has its' own weight.

Each international mail  - as more weight (example 2 or 3 copies of the bow) - as more (almost double) postal costs...

Thank you all for contacting me, a lot of people did  ;)
Did not expect that to happen, haha...

I'm able to get at least 20 copies at SPiel. I will contact the first 20 people first if they're still interested.
After that, if I still have copies left, I will contact everyone that contacted me after the first 20 people did.

I will try to contact everyone on Monday/Tuesday....

It's 3 tiles. Plus some tiles for other games as well.

Now I'm gonna pack and enjoy the next few days at Spiel!  :)

I'd like a copy, too. I'm from Italy and can paypal, before shipping, of course. Thanks

Ooh... Looking good!  ^-^

I don't speak German, but I did understand that you get 3 extra points when you finish the city or the church thingy... But do you get 3 points per tile, or just the normal amount you would get, plus 3 extra points? :)

Here is my quick translation (Google translate plus some editing for clarity):

Quote
Darmstadt

Game preparation: The three Darmstadt tiles are mixed in with the landscape tiles. When played with the base game, we recommend first removing two monastery tiles from the base game.

Landscape Tiles:

darmstadtium: "Darmstadt plays" has been held in the congress center since 2010. For a complete city with the darmstadtium, the player who has the majority of the knights earns 3 extra points.

St. Louis Church and Russian Chapel: These two churches are treated as monasteries. When one of these churches is completed by surrounding with 8 landscape tiles, the player who has the most followers on the church earns 3 extra points. In the case of a tie, all players involved get the 3 points.

Thank you Scott. A very simply expansion but that's just fine. I like how Russian and French churches are now entering the mix. French is good, Russian...well, we're getting a little bit out of the area now.

Any rules to them?

The rules are shown in the image posted by kettlefish above, in German. After I finish my English translations of the Gold Rush and The Sheriff rules, I think I'm going to create a rule sheet for the Darmstadt tiles that has the same look as all of the other Carcassonne rules. I'll post it here if course.   ^-^

Indeed you are correct:

The Russian Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdelene

The Catholic Church of Saint Louis of Toulouse

And lastly, The Darmstadtium

My apologies if the images are slightly tweaked but I had to make them smaller from the originals and I didn't bother to check the actual dimensions. I think I got them pretty close, though.

I think the St. Louis Church and the Russian Chapel, The Dutch and Belgium Monasteries, and the German Monasteries looks great - and I want them all. But I must admit that I am hoping for more mini-expansions in the future that don't include the instruction of removing some monastery tiles from the base game.

So the flier can fly into a monastery but not a church, and then become an abbot? Was that right?  :) so many rules to keep track of..  :-[

So the 2 churches in darmstraat expansion, the russian and the other one, are they also monasteries, so the meeple can become an abbot?  ???

This was my correction according to the german rules. The two churches of the Darmstadt mini expansion are scored like cloisters, too.

Long story short:

I had fun these last few days at Spiel. But am very tired.

I have 21 copies of Darmstadt promo, but keeping one for myself.
I also have 4 copies of Belagerer.

I will contact the first 10 people from my list tomorrow. The other 10 on Tuesday.
If, for some reason I will still end up with copies, I will let everyone know.
I have to ask to stop sending PM's asking if I still have a copy.  C:-)

I also have a Spiel 2014 promo tile for Carcassonne that I want to give away with a contest/question at the end of the month.
If anyone has some suggestions what would be a nice contest/question, please let me know.
It must have to do with Spiel 2014 though.

That's it for now...I'm off to sleepppppzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The quality of the documentation contained within the CAR is mostly excellent and all of the expansions you've listed are covered by that. I'm not sure what more would be useful?

The big CAR book is very useful yes, but it doesn't look like those paper sheets that comes with the games themselves. :) The "classic" look.

It might not be quite the same, but if you look in the Rules Templates (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=217) in the downloads section, you could download templates and then paste in the text from the CAR.

Now I see what you mean. I guess that might be something that somebody would be interested in creating. Personally I find it more helpful having everything in one place so would normally prefer to have something like the CAR than individual sheets regardless of their artistic appeal!

danisthirsty:

I agree with this, and that is why I never created English rules for most of those expansions, since they already existed in the CAR.

BabyGamer:

However, I DID do an English rules translation for the German Monasteries, here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B62Qt7XfvzblRkZtQ0wtZWFRdG8/view?usp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B62Qt7XfvzblRkZtQ0wtZWFRdG8/view?usp=sharing)

I most likely won't do a separate one for the Dutch Monasteries, since the rules are exactly the same.

About the copies from Essen:

Most people have now paid! Awesome, very fast guys... :)

The first six copies went out yesterday (people who only wanted the Carc expansion).
For the other copies I will go out and buy bigger enveloppes (the ones I bought yesterday were too small) and they will go out tonight and tomorrow.
Be a little more patient... ;)

All in all it turned out to be a very expensive thing to do (travel to supply office....post office...getting envelopes)...so I'm very glad everyone paid so fast. I hope the promo will be worth the wait (and cost) for everyone  8)

Very cool feeling to be sending packages all over the world. Hope they will arrive in good condition.

Goodjob on this khonnor
I know the feeling. The dutch monasteries cost me.in total 250 euro until now. Lucky this is a very trustfull community who all pay fast and the amount that is necessary.

Thanks everyone! Yes, SRBO, everyone paid very fast, thankfully. I did calculate gas, time, packaging into the shipping costs. Hopefully no one will have a problem with that. It's been my pleasure. Every promo has now been shipped! So everyone should be receiving their promo within short.  :blue-meeple:

Hopefully everyone will enjoy them....

Thanks for YOUR hard work in doing this! It's fantastic, the first tiles I've gotten as a 'forum group buy'! :)

Haven't gotten mine yet (of course, also haven't gotten Spielbox or the Belgium Monasteries), and will let you know when I do.  ;D

Please, respond on receiving :)

Mine arrived today safe and sound, I had to stop the postie from trying to force it through the letter flap - images of the worst possibilities scrambled through my head as I fumbled to get the door open. All is good though - thank you very much MrNumbers! :(y)

I just had a look over it again - They say they will make arrangements after Darmstadt Spielt - This is taking place on the 15th & 16th of November. You are going to have to hold on tight until at least Monday 17th of November.  :'(

As for the rules, here is the original text:
Quote
Hochzeitsturm

Also here's my quick go at translating it (via Google Translate). There are still some stilted phrases, and I'm not really familiar with Catan - but it seems to make sense.

Quote
Hochzeitsturm ("Marriage Tower" - the landmark of Darmstadt, Germany - its image is on the tile)

Game preparation:
The desert tile is replaced by the Hochzeitsturm. The robber thus starts the game on the Hochzeitsturm. The Hochzeitsturm, like the desert it replaces, has no number chip and thus produces no resources.

During the game, the following applies: If a "7" is rolled, the resulting actions according to the usual rules are carried out. Then each player who has a settlement or city at one corner of the Hochzeitsturm, may take the resources of the landscape tile on which the robber is placed.
If the robber has left the Hochzeitsturm tile, it must not be moved back on to it.

Received Darmstadt today. Thanks Mr. Numbers!

I most likely won't do a separate one for the Dutch Monasteries, since the rules are exactly the same.

In the rules for German Monasteries, there is a page that describes each monastery. We need information like that for the Dutch and Belgian monasteries for the next version of the CAR.

I've seen a number of them on ebay.de - many with shipping options within the EU, though it all depends on how much you want to pay for them. I'm after this too, though some of the prices being asked on there are a bit steep!

For anyone who wants to get their hands on this, I suggest you wait until after the "Darmstadt Spielt" in the middle of November. They are going to try and make the tile sheet available online for those that can't attend - should be cheaper than the €20+ they're going for on ebay.de at the moment.

I just played Darmstadt and I can confirm that the tiles are much darker than the normal Carcassonne tiles. Darker even than the Carc 2.0 tiles. I don't know why they can't get the contrast right on any of these things, but the two cloisters stood out terribly well against the normal green of my other tiles. And for the record, I have all my vanilla tiles mixed together right now, so there already is a slight rainbow of greens present. But nothing compares to these tiles.

Am I the only one bothered by the Darmstadt expansion? I decided not to buy it because it's just a promotion and it's not medieval, so for me it's not in the spirit of the series. I thought it would just be something quirky for the completionists and it wouldn't really be integrated into the game - and I thought most of the big fans of the game on this forum would see Darmstadt the way I did.

But now I see it has become very much integrated into the Carcassonne world here - people are making halflings with Darmstadt tiles, people are including it in their base game setup etc. And this annoys me in an irrational way. Does this mean any city can just make random Carcassonne tiles that have nothing to do with the game? Will we have Eiffel Tower tiles and Reichstag tiles and Jet d'Eau tiles soon and if so, will everyone rush to buy them?

I didn’t like the Darmstadt the first time I saw them. But I have a little completionist devil on my shoulder that insisted that I had to get them. ???

When I got them I was disappointed with the colour on the fields, and that the churches was so big. They really stand out in a game, and not in a nice way. The churches are not medieval, but at least they look old. The Darmstadtium is just as wrong as you can get it, and will newer be used in my games.

My conclusion will be that I don't like the Darmstadt, but in a peculiar way I am still glad that I got hold of one copy. It must be my little devil >:D

I included the churches from Darmstadt in my take on the Haflings, just for the fun of it - and they look better when small, I think. ;)

Oh, wow. I'm quite surprised of your opinion! I never thought that someone would say something negative about the Darmstadt-tiles. But now that you said it, I must admit: You're right! It's quite not-medieval. Still, I like the gameplay of the two chapels.

However, I never considered these tiles as not "official", since HiG collaborated with them. Well, now one could start a new Porxada discussion, but for my share: :-X
Title: Re: another new Mini-Expansion "Carcassonne - Darmstadt"
Post by: Whaleyland on November 25, 2014, 09:06:27 PM
Yeah, I think Darmstadt is a step up on the "official" ladder from La Porxada but a step down from Spielbox. The fact that the tiles were printed on actual cardstock is something in its favour, but it seems to be more of an official-nod expansion than a full official expansion. I don't expect to see this available from Cundco ever. That being said, you could say the same thing about the Games Quarterly Expansion or Cult, Siege & Creativity, both created by a distributor rather than Hans im Glück. If you want to play the "official" game, then things get murky quick. Kettlefish is needed, though, to make the call.

I also agree.
The monasteries are old buildings. They fit in.. lucky its only 3 tiles.
But im not waiting on a Eiffel tower indeed.

You cold say that this whole set becomes a "world" expansion. Darmstadt, de kloosters, die moasteries in germany. Its kind of awefull that all the new monasteries use the same mechanics. If they would change a bit..

Haha lol.. i can see the great wall.of china starter tiles coming xd

I am beginning to see the Klösters for exactly what they are: cloister replacements. I didn't at first, but I've changed my mind. I think I'll just swap all of my cloisters out with Klösters. They look cooler. Once I get some Abbots, I also plan to give each player one of those. Only Abbots will be able to use the Monastery mechanic. I like that rule.
Title: Re: another new Mini-Expansion "Carcassonne - Darmstadt"

You cold say that this whole set becomes a "world" expansion. Darmstadt, de kloosters, die moasteries in germany. Its kind of awefull that all the new monasteries use the same mechanics. If they would change a bit..

But see, I really like the new monasteries and I'm hoping for more from other countries. For me these are a brilliant addition to Carcassonne because they:
(a) stay true to the medieval theme of the series
(b) offer interesting and beautiful new artwork
(c) involve 'travel', different countries etc
(d) it adds an interesting gameplay dynamic, although as Whaleyland said, it would be better if you could only use one abbot

But in Darmstadt, the (a) is not there. So all my interest is gone even if (b), (c) and (d) are there.

So I am a 'purist' here. I just don't want modern buildings infiltrating my medieval landscape, in the same way that I wouldn't mix old Carcassonne and new Carcassonne tiles - for me it ruins the whole experience that Carcassonne offers.

Yeah, I think Darmstadt is a step up on the "official" ladder from La Porxada but a step down from Spielbox. The fact that the tiles were printed on actual cardstock is something in its favour, but it seems to be more of an official-nod expansion than a full official expansion. I agree with you here except that GQ11 and CS&C stay true to the theme of the game and Darmstadt doesn't. I just don't see what it has to do with the Carcassonne series at all. That's why I thought/hoped it was more of a gimmick than an official expansion.

You know, I feel the same way. I did not buy the German/Dutch/Belgian monasteries and I never would have the Darmstadt tiles if it was just those tiles. But, it also came with expansion tiles for Catan and Village and I had to buy 20 copies of Darmstadt either way so I bought a copy for myself as well.

We played with it since Essen 1 or 2 times, but I do think I will remove these from play in a while and just keep them in the box with unplayed expansions  ;D

If they ever release French monasteries or a boxed expansion with all the monasteries I might pick it up for completion sake, but for now I have no interest in them.

On another topic.... I do wish they will release a set of the Abbot meeples in all colors.

I said pretty early that I don't feel the need to own these.  I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I don't really feel the need to own the Klosters either.  I'm on the fence with Belagerers since there are six tiles.  10 in one game is way too many though.

And here it is. You can make another present for Christmas.

Info from Darmstadt, i recived today:

Quote
For our international customers:

Your patience is finally rewarded, now it is possible to order the anniversary die cut sheet to "Darmstadt spielt" with extensions to Carcassonne, Midnight Party, Settlers of Catan, Village Port and Zooloretto on our website. The rules and the text of the Midnight Party tiles are in German, maybe we will have a translation for download later.

The die cut sheet costs including international shipping € 12.00, the payment is via Paypal (this is the simplest technique, especially for the foreign buyers)

Click here to go to the order page: http://www.darmstadt-spielt.de/darmstaedter-erweiterungen/

Viel Spass, have fun,
Michael Blumöhr

I ordered my copy already.

Greetings

Received today. I'm going to keep Carcassone, Catan and Zooloretto expansions, and give away, for free, the others (Hugo and Village).

Have you tried eBay yet? Right now, there are 4 auctions running on eBay.de with reasonable starting prices, three of them including shipping costs to Finland. Hard to tell, how far they will rise, but since there are more then a couple running at one time, chances are, that you can snipe there a good bargain, if you watch the offers for a few weeks.

P.S.: I now checked the recently ended auctions. Seems,
this (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Darmstadt-Erweiterung-zu-Carcassonne-/191434554472?pt=DE_Allesf%C3%BCrsKind_Spielzeug_Gesellschaftsspiele&hash=item2c92637c68) had been the cheapest bid so far, many auctions don't end below 12€ inc. shipping. So right now, it might be, that you would need a little patience, before reasonable prices are available. It all depends, how many customers are willing to pay more (or are getting berserk during the final stage of an auction), but there will come the time, when they all got, what they wanted, and then the prices will fall. Last November it was not unusual, that people paid 20€ just for the three tiles, you can't find that in January anymore.

20 euro for 3 tiles???  :o *flat beat*

If I paid 5 euro for the tunnel, I'll be damned to pay 20 for Darmstadt.. :(

No no... Not that much.. too much for me.  :(

It's available for 12 Euros from the link on this thread. Not sure how much shipping to Finland would be but I'm not sure how much cheaper you'll be able to get it...

EDIT: I've just seen that you clearly already knew this. Please ignore me.  :-[
