Final standings:

Looks like it's me vs. Carcking in the quarter-final then! Looking forward to it already...

Gerry 87 - 84 Andrew the Ambo

Looks like this group is going to be decided by the last game too!

@MrNumbers - agreed. I had spotted that this was a possibility but didn't view it as a problem. Your proposal makes more sense though; next time we run a competition with a knock-out element to it we will arrange the matches as per your suggestion i.e. that winners and runners-up from each group are on different sides to each other.

Upcoming Scheduled Games / Re: game on jcloisterzone now?

Those were two great games we've had Ross! 1 game each so far. We'll have to have a decider soon although I reserve the right to sulk very childishly indeed if I lose...

World Cup of Carcassonne Central / Re: Carcassonne World Cup!
« on: August 26, 2014, 02:34:45 AM »
So after 3 weeks, 36 games have been played and 10,232 points have been scored! 13 people have now played all 4 of their matches which leaves just 7 people to play the 4 remaining games to bring the group stage of the competition to an end.

Here's your weekly update on what's been going on...

Group Scores:

(Gerry has taken evmillan's place in this group due to issues with availability on evmillan's part - hopefully he will be able to join in with the next tournament)

(the remaining game can not change 1st/2nd in this group but it can still determine 3rd/4th/5th to some extent)

(quevy vs mas9dj will be the decider in this group - if they were selling tickets they would have sold-out a long time ago!)

(winners of the mystery "first group to finish" bonus prize for each member)

Individual Scores:

Knock-out Stage:

All this means that five players have already booked a place in the quarter-finals which will be arranged as below (the number after each name represents the total score differential won by that person at the group stage; in each quarter-final match the player with the higher score will place the first tile):

Well done to everyone! I hope everyone else has been enjoying themselves as much as I have!  :)

I contacted him through email and we agreed that it was in the competition's best interests for him to give up his place and let someone else play instead. Hopefully he will be able to join us in the next competition...

General / Re: A Case for Calling the New River I The River III
« on: August 22, 2014, 02:37:21 PM »
If the tiles with the features from some of the other expansions alter the way the game is played with River 3 over River 1 then I think it could be argued that this is more than just new graphics, as two games which were otherwise exactly the same but for River 1 or 3 could play out quite differently.

However, I think I still see it as River 1 for the time being although I reserve the right to change my mind if I ever get to own it. The way things are going right now though, it seems to be becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of every different tile for the completionists among us...

I voted Mage & Witch but if it had been top 2 I would have voted for Goldmines as well. I think these add to the game without taking anything away from it and have been best received when I've played them within my group. Personally I'm not a fan of Robbers or Messengers and the only experiences I've had of Flyers have been very frustrating ones so it doesn't get used a lot...

5682
Ouch - that is a huge margin! Well done both, let's see what happens against mas9dj...

5683
Well played both! It looks like this group is going to come down to the wire!

@quevy - who are you playing next?

Absolutely Andrew, that was never in question. I'm really grateful that you've been able to make things work with rfielder and monwil given the awkward time zones...  :(y)

I don't see why not. I wouldn't try to do this myself though as I quite like how they look unpainted.
